I would argue that more and more people setting up sims/grids without a decent understanding on how any of that works behind the curtain, at a server level.
I've seen good people unable to ban others just because their gird or sim is misconfigured, I've seen people that doesn't knows what's a MAC address in despair because trolls.
I think this situation is sad, it's easy to "win" over a troll, ban the account, ban the ip, ban the mac... When he or she changes ban the troll again, and again, and again non stop. This will have a two-fold result:
1. It's not fun, regardless how bent over backwards is the troll is not fun.
2. You can eventually see if a spike of new accounts are created and start to fingerprint the user, not to ID them but to eventually stop the troll completely, they normally give up before you have a good set of data though.
I get that you want to do a white list system to send a message but then if you designed your sim/grid for the general public it'll feel lifeless and sterile. There are better options.
