This site is monetized. People buy coins to post on the mainpage using RL money. People can choose to do paid ads to showcase their regions and content. People also pay for premium memberships to have extra features. But the moderation is next to nil. Yes, a recent troll was FINALLY removed after DAYS of toxic barrage. But it took way too long. And while the account was removed, the box was not cleared of their comments.
Yes we can block people. But since griefers and trolls make countless alts it's a constant issue. If you're making money off a site, it needs to be moderated. The site owner and manager needs to try to ensure that users have a good or bare minimum usable experience.
And while I recognize that one person may not be able to manage it all, there's been no effort to recruit other moderators. And I do think any potential new moderators should be paid for their time and effort. After all, the site makes money off the many users who pay into it.
It's feeling pretty frustrating and futile right now. This can be a great tool to connect with other OpenSim folks. And it's a great way to see what people are building and find new regions. For the folks who like parties, they can see events. But yeah it's been more irritation than joy lately.

Let's talk about child avatar criteria for a moment.
This is Juno, my little in-world sister. Little as in one year younger. What she's wearing is something she isn't too unlikely to wear these days. It's still quite chilly outside after all.
Those of you who know her won't doubt that she's a grown-up woman. But there's a whole lot about her that may qualify her as an underage avatar. I'm not even joking.
Yes, on the one hand, protection against paedos and their unlawful ageplay is a necessity; see also Safine's most recent post: https://opensimworld.com/post/108176
On the other hand, paedos are trying to circumvent countermeasures. Add to this the most recent drama about Lindens being directly involved in sexual ageplay in Second Life.
As a result, sim owners ramp up their countermeasures. This goes well beyond more and more sims redefining the Adult rating as "G-rated, but no child avatars allowed". It's likely that the signs that an avatar is underage will be "upgraded", too.
And the wide-spread anti-underage paranoia has made them absolutely ridiculous quite a while ago already. There's so much that could qualify Juno here as a kid.
Let me sum it up.
First of all, her height. The most blatant sign and the only one that triggers auto-bans. She's "only" 1.74m which is 5'8½". Many childgates still run on default settings which ban everyone under 1.80m. And I guess their number will increase as more and more sim owners decide that 1.60m or 1.70m doesn't cut it anymore. I'm pretty sure Juno has fallen victim to childgates twice already.
The other criteria are purely visual.
Her shape is somewhat close to realistic. Her head is about ⅛ of her body height which is actually still a bit small for a real-life woman. By OpenSim standards, however, her head is rather large in comparison with her body height. This reeks of a kid shape.
Next, look at her skin tone. In early April in real life, this is a fairly typical skin tone. In OpenSim, however, grown-ups are basically required to have a deep tan. Even most goths have darker skins than Juno. The only avatars with such light skins are child avatars. Well, and Juno, but if you don't know her, you're easy to take her for a kid because her skin is so light.
Now, look at her face. Look at her lips. No pumped-up boat lips. This is what real-life lips look like, but in OpenSim, the only avatars with such thin lips are either male avatars or child avatars. Since she doesn't have a perma-stubble or a full beard, she can't be the former.
Anything else you notice about her face? Right, no make-up whatsoever. Practically all other adult female avatars out there at least wear lipstick. She doesn't even wear that. Well, sometimes she does, but not here, not now. Makes her look like a kid in comparison.
Speaking of make-up, look at her hands. No nail polish. AFAIK, not a single one of the popular female mesh bodies lets you go without nail polish. Especially Athena doesn't. So basically, if a female avatar doesn't wear nail polish, it's either a classic, mesh-less layer-and-prim avatar from, like, 2007 or a child avatar. And Juno doesn't look like she doesn't have a mesh body.
And her hair? Yes, that's a bob. In real life, it was a rather popular hairstyle in the 1960s. In OpenSim, hair significantly shorter than shoulder length is probably the second-most child-like girl hairstyle right after twin pigtails. As an adult woman, she should be expected to have a long lush mane. I've never seen a single female avatar with Paige hair. Black could be a saving throw because little girls are usually blond, but not necessarily.
Let's continue with her clothes.
She's covering a whole lot of skin, more than almost all other female avatars. Granted, most little girl avatars show a whole lot more skin, too. Just look at those super-short skirts that seem to be a requirement for underage girl avatars. But grown-up female avatars are basically expected to do the same. Thus, covering up makes her look less adult.
So does the rather loose fit of her clothes. Adult female avatars may be allowed to wear long denim jeans, but only of the skin-tight kind. But while Juno's jeans are labelled slim fit, they look rather like something a little boy could wear.
Her pullover gives the impression that she doesn't have a waist. You know what other avatars don't have much of a waist? Good thing she doesn't have a petite body because there's no petite variant of her body, otherwise she'd look almost flat in this pullover. Also, that shade of teal might be questionable at least. It'd be worse if that pullover was pink, but she doesn't have it in pink.
Finally, her footwear. She's wearing flat shoes. Adult female avatars are expected to always walk around on 6" heels. In fact, she's even wearing sneakers. Flat sneakers. Even tip-toe sneakers are questionable, but unless worn by a manly man, they're little girl material.
And if that wasn't enough, she's wearing them with white socks. The only hosiery adult female avatars may wear in OpenSim is nylon stockings, Zettai Ryouiki-style, showing skin on the thighs above. Socks are pretty much exclusively worn by children, so what does that make Juno?
I bet that if Juno wore this to events in places whose owners don't know her, chances are she'd be banned on the spot for being a kid. Good thing her usual party styles are of the kind that causes her to be accused of dressing like a grandma instead.

To all the folks who hope to create RP sims sadly in Opensims they don't work. RP should be a large group effort. Opensims just don't have enough people, Unlike SL where there is 1000's online at any given day. At the end of the day we create/build for ourselves which isn't a bad thing.

Teleporting Issues?
I just became aware of a major flaw with firestorm and the solution that is on the Firestorm download page. I have been unable to TP unless I relog for last 3 days. After much research I realized this was a Firestorm SLURL issue.
Go to the firestorm download page and you will see the above information.
I have not changed my viewer settings or added any new viewers; but it appears some upgrade (probably windows) caused the SLURL function in Firestorm to no longer work properly.
As I follow up....I am teleporting perfectly now after installing this.

What is this ?
SLURL Proxy is an application that will handle SLURLs on your Windows system. Clicking a SLURL on the web,
will open SLURL proxy, which will forward the SLURL to the viewer you have chosen.
Why is that interesting ?
Various Second Life viewers you might, or may already have installed, modify the way SLURLs are handled on your system,
and often cause problems when you uninstall certain viewers.
SLURL Proxy provides a user friendly way to correct this.
Upon start up, SLURL Proxy will check to see if it's the default SLURL handler.
If it is not, it will inform you about that, and ask you if you'd like to use SLURL Proxy as default instead.
When you have set SLURL Proxy as default,(or even before that) you can simply drag one or more viewer shortcuts onto the application window,
and they should be listed with viewer name, and icon.
SLURL Proxy allows you to add several viewers, and one always needs to be the default viewer to use.
The default viewer is the one where the checkbox is checked.
If you would like to change the default viewer, simply click the viewer of your choice in the list.
That's it.
If you wish to set a viewer as default SLURL handler instead of SLURL proxy, then you simply need to click
Set other SLURL handler in the menu, and drag the shortcut of your favourite viewer onto the window.
Requires .NET 3.5 and only runs on Windows

This week I realized.....the best thing I can do for Opensim
is help all of you build underwater worlds if you wish.

Hundreds of fish, coral, 5 types of rays, sharks, octopus, anemones, kelp and much more!
Enjoy making your dreams come alive!

You will have access too JCL, COBOL, ASSEMBLY, C++, REXX, and will be able to use the SYSDUMPs. You will be on sysplex1 with full access to 3380, 3390, and 3350 DASD. You will also have access to IBM 3420 TAPE Unit. You can explore what a mainframe operating system is like and how it is different from personal computers. Obviously you will not have access to TOP SECRET or RACF. I often say that anyone can learn PC stuff (personal computers) like Linux, Windows, or Apple OSX by reading just 1 thick 2000 page book. But for the mainframe you need to read about 200-300 of those thick 2000 page books. It is way more complicated. There are 5 mainframe operating systems: IBM Unix called AIX, IBM vm/cms, IBM os/400, Digital Equipment Corp VMS, and the Zos family. This mainframe you are logging into is in the Zos family. This is called a lectica. It's a small bed that you are carried on by 2 npc's. Satyr Aeon built the original one, I fixed it up some here and there. You can drive it around like a car and up to 4 people can ride with you. :) You can make the npc's run by pushing the pgUp button. Here my NPC servants are walking across a narrow rope bridge carrying me. hehehe Satyr Aeon made this, I just tweaked some scripts and rebuilt the bed. :) Now with the new scripts you can link whatever you want to it, and it won't mess up the npc's because it gets their named prims prim numbers through script. Also I've fixed some issues with the original code. But credit should go to Satyr as he made it. There's one at wizardry you can copy for free. cyberdatastorm.com:8002:Wizardry And yes their legs actually walk when you are moving it around.

Okay, this one goes out to @sodasullivan who keeps moaning about me only bringing alcohol. So some Hazelnut Coffee it is...and a 'Hidden' wine cellar.
Both items dispense drinks with hold/drink animations: Cellar 2 different ones.
Cellar frame is scripted so it moves and hides the drinks! Pourover dripping is scripted too.
All include bumpiness and shine layers and values.

Not dead! Taken a bit to get back to next step at Starchild Shoppe: furniture review. During the first months the goal was to make available as much as I could. Now it's time to refine, some based on your feedback, it will be a slow process, but Float and Mattress are done!:
- Bumpiness and shine layers now included.
- Permissions have been reviewed so they are Copy+Mod
- Wear props have been reviewed with Matthew Stevenson's fix so they rotate properly.
- Includes a HUD, and I have added the remaining 15 textures.
The updated items will also get their vendor updated, so just click on the screen for those (rather than the usual GET button).

In the past, as I guess many others in OS too, we had to have a 'paging' system for rentals, get involve in each transaction, assign permissions... it was an administrative nightmare.
Now we can manage almost 300 parcel rentals (both free and paid) spread across 8 regions (and planning on another 72!) SEAMLESSLY!
