People leave OPENSIM because they go around the beacon popular places looking for PEOPLE and only find bots or abandoned avatars.
No one comes from SL to buy free rags (yes they are lovely!), people want to COMMUNICATE!!!
I know you won't understand me. It's just that you've already closed yourself up in your made-up happiness and don't want to go out and socialize. You can blame me for all your sins. do it! You can post from your dozens of clones created to mimic crowds of supporters.... Ban me, report me, shame me!
And don't shout that someone banned or restricted you! The only one punished in OSW is me, and again because I told the truth that the number of visitors was fake! I confessed and I was punished because the rules are like that!
Want me to delete this SIM and everything on it? OK, but will that erase the lie? Will it bring at least one new user to OpenSIM? Will it remove the six traditionally parked dolls from the new beach party region (yes, yes - the newcomers follow tradition)?

Wow, this is insane...I must've had a blonde moment (and I am a rl blonde) when looking for "popular" places to visit. I didn't take any offense when I found bots at a location, just realized i needed to look for actual comments as to whether a place was occupied or not. AND I find that if there is no "live" ppl on a sim I just moved on...besides sometimes having a bot around can make a place seems less lonely. Just saying.

Bots in plain sight are one thing. Maybe the sim owner has arrived from Second Life not long ago and doesn't know that, unlike Second Life, OpenSim supports actual NPCs. Or they don't know how to make NPCs yet. Or they find actual NPCs too inconvenient to handle.
The least a sim owner could do then is put the bots on the exclude list in the OSW beacon. I'll be honest: Not doing so reeks of cheating, especially now. Doing so says, "I'm not cheating, and I do what's necessary for everyone to know."
But it's something else to put AFK avatars clearly made for this purpose (if their profiles are blank save for maybe one group, you can be certain they're purpose-made) somewhere where visitors can't see, much less interact with them. Inside a building on a parcel set to private, for example. Or even more blatantly, on a sky platform 5,000m above the ground with no teleporter to take you there.
If you do manage to teleport there, and you spot a bunch of standard Ruths or whatever starter avatars the grid gives out, the case is clear.
If the sim owner insists that what OSW measures is actual visitor traffic, the case is clear.
If the sim owner attacks you personally and/or blocks you on OSW or even bans you in-world after finding out your UUID just because you've ever spoken out against visitor count cheating, the case is clear.
There are also those who justify un-excluded bots by stating that literally nobody cares for the popularity ranking anyhow. But, believe it or not, there are always those who are like, "Wait, people don't care for it? I always use it to find cool sims where lots of people go!" And if they're newbies, they're also like, "What do you mean it isn't accurate?"
It's mostly seasoned users of many years for whom the list of most popular sims is bogus. Fairly new users of a few weeks or months who don't know about the manipulations take it at face value. You make a great point. OS is totally the Earth and Pagne has assumed the role of ruler. Damn, Trump and/or Putin is going to be pissed. In support of one or both of them, we need to declare war against Pagane and the Nazi regime of OSW and their rules against inflating traffic. (Maybe I go to far, but seriously). <s>
Late edit. Added the sarcasm thingy for those who couldn't tell. The only rulers on OSW are the owners of it. They encourage people to report places that inflate their traffic. If you have a problem with that, talk to them.

One, the "button" is a bit hard to find and not obviously a button. Think "reverse dark pattern". And don't forget that there are people who have been on OSW for years and still have yet to discover the groups (https://opensimworld.com/groups).
Two, I've made the experience that many users of online platforms can't be bothered with ever reporting anything and try to convince themselves that the moderators see everything quickly enough.
Three, OpenSimWorld doesn't have moderators. And Satyr seems not to be online often enough and for long enough to be able to take care of everything in sensible amounts of time, if at all.
The best proof for the last two points is that there has been an ad for a real-life escort service amongst the rentals for more than a year already. Granted, there is no report button for rentals, but still.

Obviously OSW community, Satyr has allowed people to have fun with what they wish to do on their own grids. Were not in kindergarten. Most people, will go where they will have fun. Most people don't care if their number 1 or 25. Most people, do their own thing, and leave others to do the same. Your right he's the boss here.

Maybe it'd be the best to remove the list of most popular sims altogether if it isn't accurate anyway and a constant source of cheating and increasing drama. I dare say it has lost its original purpose, and it's broken beyond repair.

Pagane, you are not contributing anything to this community but harm. It's unhelpful and unkind. And it's making good people rethink this hobby - which is not ok. I don't actually care who has what traffic number or how they got it. I go to regions based on what kinds of interesting things people share about them. You have a mindset about what people should do or not do with their regions which is ludicrous. People are allowed to express their creativity however they choose...be it with builds or avatars. What's not ok is using creative spaces to slander, shame and mock others on some messed up crusade. You're wasting your time and all of ours. Delete it and leave everyone alone to find their joy.

Exactly what gives YOU permission to hack into grids and post logo's of said grids anyway? What has it gained? Nothing, but made you look like a child and many people commenting on your behaviour. Our grid has NEVER falsified numbers (in fact we were one grid that fought to get accurate numbers when we were on Zeta), now we do not use the OSW beacon anymore on any regions on our own grid. Therefore an apology would be appreciated - we dont lie .... at least do me that favour before I leave OSW for pastures new.
