Firestorm 7.2.4 Bug: Constant "Could not add to the grid list: 0" Popup – Causes and Fixes for Grid Owners & Users

Hello everyone!

If you recently updated to the latest Firestorm Viewer 7.2.4.80712 and you're suddenly getting spammed by an annoying popup error saying: “Could not add to the grid list. server didn't provide grid info: 0” while you're online, here is the official explanation and the proper way to fix it!

The Firestorm development team has already identified and fixed this bug for the upcoming releases. Here is a breakdown of what causes it and how to resolve it right now.

🔍 What is causing the bug?

The issue occurs when the viewer reads your local history logs from your disk. If you have previously visited or typed locations belonging to a third-party grid that is currently offline or down, the viewer fails to fetch its data during startup and mistakenly triggers the manual grid setup error dialog on your screen.

The developer has already patched this in the source code so that these background checks for temporary/stored grids fail silently without spamming the user.

🛠️ Official Solution

The definitive fix is already implemented in the code. To get rid of this issue completely without manual workarounds, you can either:

  • Wait for the next official Firestorm Beta release.
  • Download and use the latest Firestorm Nightly Builds where this fix is already active.

💻 For Users & Residents (The Proper Temporary Workaround)

If you want to keep using your current viewer version without popups, do NOT freeze your grids.user.xml file (as it can cause other configuration issues). Instead, follow these steps to clean your history files:

  1. Close Firestorm completely.
  2. Open your computer's file explorer, type %appdata% in the address bar, and hit Enter.
  3. Go to the Firestorm (or Firestorm_x64) folder.
  4. Open the folder named after your Avatar Account (inside your specific grid folder).
  5. Locate these two files: teleport_history.txt and typed_locations.txt.
  6. The Fix: Open them with a text editor and manually remove any SLURLs/links pointing to non-functioning or offline grids. Alternatively, if you don't mind losing your teleport and location history, you can simply delete both files. The viewer will recreate them clean on your next login.
