💕 SPEED DATING – APHRA SOCIAL CLUB

Our last Speed Dating event was a great success, and people have already asked us to do it again. Well, the event, of course. LOL!

Everyone is welcome to join the party – and nobody has to participate in dating.

WEB_3D: YOUR OPENSIM REGION IN A BROWSER

Web_3d turns an OpenSim region (an OAR converted to a GLB file) into a web page you visit in the browser, with nothing to install on the visitor's side: you walk around, you can fly, you follow portals from one region to another, you click on signs and pictures. A world map links several regions. Optionally, a small presence server lets you see the other visitors and chat.

- region-simple.zip: your region in one file. A small example region opens right away; you replace the file with yours (site/region.glb). It includes a help page for your visitors, step-by-step documentation (including how to convert an OAR to GLB), a renaming script and the optional presence server. To publish, you copy the site/ folder to any plain web hosting.
- galerie-photos.zip: a 3D gallery of 30 photos, visited by walking around. You replace the images (1.jpg to 30.jpg) and the captions: it is not an OpenSim region, but a complete exhibition-room example with clickable panels, ready to customise.

Why it is useful: show a region to someone who has no OpenSim viewer, put it online as a simple web page, or exhibit photos in 3D, with no software to install on the visitor's side.

Good to know: the region is a snapshot (a GLB file), not a live world. Converting an OAR is done on Windows (Python and convoar). Tested with Edge and Chrome/Chromium.

special update!
identified an issue in opensimulator server code with /homeagent that allowed anyone on the internet to post fake info including ip address with just a avatar uuid and add entries to presence. if you had weird ghosts show up on your grid could be why maybe. who know what else somebody else could do with that. anyway /homeagent is used when you teleport to another grid or back home. I changed it so it has to get a secure session id to accept data. i arbitrarily decided to make the life of the token 8 hours. So if you are on any grid more then 8 hours without teleporting to another grid you may have to relog before teleporting. You can stay on the grid longer just not teleport anywhere. I can change that if it's an issue. the other problem had to do with assets that came in with meta data but no assets, they were piling up and causing an effect like washing tennis shoes in the washer. now the incoming metadata can only last 15 minutes without corresponding asset data or gets wiped. this is on new assets as the come in, does not mess with existing assets. have fun!

After 15 years with Ruritania on Littlefield, our admin/owner team has decided not to host Ruritania going forward on Littlefield Grid. This is no reflection on Xi Shi or anyone from Ruritania, it's simply a business decision we had to make. We wish Xi and Ruritania well at their new home wherever that may be (you will have to contact Xi directly for that information).
