If they actually knew about OpenSim beyond the name, they wouldn't list it as a world.

This seems to be one of the things about OpenSim that many Metaverse websites have a problem with: It isn't a world. It's server software. Or rather, it isn't one world. It's over 3,000 independent worlds. It is what some try hard to invent and pioneer and others deem technologically impossible.

That's also why the Virtual Worlds Museum tracks OpenSim and the Wolf Territories separately. It is as if they have a hard time understanding that one is software, and only the other one is a world.

If Metaversed Consulting were to do it right, they could immediately increase the number of virtual worlds on their list by thousands of extra worlds, simply by replacing the general OpenSim entry with specific grids as worlds. Just let Maria Korolov and Ferd Frederix at them. Granted, that list would be outdated again next week.

Another thing that seems completely unimaginable for Metaversed Consulting is that virtual worlds don't necessarily have to work either in VR goggles or in a standard Web browser. That they may require dedicated client software, but that client software is geared towards standard desktop and laptop computers with 2-D screens.

I'm pretty sure that this chart has already existed before they've heard of Second Life for the first time.

and seriously who cares we get here to forget rl and world so what is the real thing ? or even virtual if this is like news in rl which many closes off why we need it?

well opensim would be one of the smallest dots beings it is almost 18 years old ,,, it was one of the first next to sl of course you had others before them like worlds and rose3d and cybertown etc but a lot of those contained a lot of 2d graphics and texturing so yes we are oldbies in the virtual museum lol

Most in opensims have never heard of Virtual Museum me for one and I been here 15yrs.

Don't worry about it, I've been old and decrepit for years and I still have half a brain and lot's of fun!
We're just the fine whiskey ageing slowly in the cellar and only appreciated by a select few.
