I am a little confused because I see people complaining when they go to regions and try to copy stuff and get upset when it comes up "no copy" or there is a sign posted to the region that says, "Items here are not copiable". Some may not like what I have to say and some may agree with it, either way I don't care. The most of the things on my residential or educational regions are built by me. Not that I don't get furniture and plants which I can't build yet, but I do my own building and my builds are unique to my regions, made specifically for them, so you'll excuse me if I don't feel like sharing that with everybody and anybody who comes along. I did the work, I made the effort, I designed it and I did so to make it unique so why should I have to share it? Can you not come up with your own ideas and use your own creative juices to make your own unique things? Yes Open Sim is free, but that doesn't mean that just because someone is using it, they have to "give" everybody else their stuff that they've created and built. I've seen nowhere in the literature about Open Sim that it says you have to share your stuff. What it does do is give you a platform in which to create, develop and design for other people to enjoy.
Now I can understand if it's stuff that people know full well has been pirated from Second Life, which a large percentage of stuff in Open Sim is, however there are some outstanding creators, programmers, scripters, developers and designers who make their own original materials and if they chose to charge for that stuff that's their right, though I know most of them do not, they give it away freely out of the goodness of their heart. That said, I do give my stuff away, but it is located in our Masala Al Kohav region which is a whole region of nothing but freebies which includes original content and those things I've picked up from around Open Sim. The one thing I try to do is make sure that the original creator's name is on it and I can tell you that if it's pirated from Second Life the creator's name that you will see is NOT the original creator. So, here's the deal, if you visit any of my regions in grid.genesis-roleplay.org:8002 that are open to the public to visit, and you see something you like, just go to our Masala Al Kohav region and you'll probably find the very same item there all boxed up and ready to go for you. If you see something you like in one of my regions, and it's not in our Mall Region, just shoot me a message and ask me nicely, you'll probably get the item in a couple of days depending on how often I'm on.
If you don't like how I do things, just remember this....You don't pay my grid costs.

I used to have everything on my regions full perm and set for anyone to copy. Then the AviTroniacs, and others came and mass coped everything, all at once, almost crashing the grid server. Now nothing at all is set to copy.

Yes in the old days we called "asking" for something that you liked that someone else had "respectful common courtesy". It is severely lacking these days.

Too many people in OS have a sense of entitlement. They believe that people owe them something in exchange for nothing. It's a symptom of a narcissistic or an antisocial personality disorder.
What they fail to understand is that if you treat others with respect, compassion, gratitude, and are genuinely kind to others, they will feel more free to return the same goodness to you.

This is opensim baby. Our working time is not worth more than that of others. More and more SL manners here in OS. Take all CMT from the others, then pass on no copy mod trans and of course your own things too. Or what? Don't cry, just go back to the SL! :-D

You clearly didn't read very closely what I said because I DO share my stuff freely and full perm, but NOT from my private regions, it can be found in our shopping/freebie regions..I don't want people taking it from our RP and residential regions so I Won't need to go back to SL since I'm not from there.....And I know this is open sim "BABY" and you may not think your time is worth more than others but I do because some of us actually WORK to build things and the rest just freeload from that work, and I think that a little more respect is do to those of us who do build and I don't take all the CMT from others and pass it on that it's no CMT and my own things are also CMT so next time read before you spout darlin!!!

I can respect people's opinions either way. Some people don't like copybotting, and sharing freely, then fine.. that is their choice, probably best for them to stay out of Opensim. I can also respect people who think that creativity should be shared freely, and support opensim and do use copybotted stuff, and do share their own stuff. But honestly I think you have a strange way of looking at it, you don't mind people stealing original work from SL creators, but you think it's wrong for people to want to have yours. I don't want to be rude, or start an argument, but what makes you different from other creators? Why should people respect your creative work, when you do not respect others?

So who are the people complaining? Have your regions clicked through on OpenSimworlds .. either empty, very very poorly visited.
So keep building and enjoy your hobby, you can neglect the 3-4 people who complain.
Apart from there are still regions that are not listed on OpenSimWorld and that are constantly full because the avatar limit has been reached :)

I think, for the most part of us all, is just common sense. Is a few who complain, that an item is not copyable. I for one, love to explore and see what people do on their builds. Think we just have to accept those who want it all.

Sadly I think you're right. I had some woman show up on my building school region which has only that structure and wanted to know "where are all the fabulous builds you made that everybody is coming to take, I want to see them,but you have NOTHING here!? Seriously? Some days it takes every ounce of my strength not to reach through the monitor and choke some people!!! LOL I told this person to look at the OSW page and find my regions and go there since that's how she got where she was in the first place. I hate having a battle of wits with someone who is so clearly unarmed.

Myself, do not understand why people are complaining, the region i just visited, granted nothing is copy, so what.
Think the region is beautiful and put together nicely.
And most of the buildings are buildings that are free for anyone in so many other places, grids and regions.
Not your fault that you got creative and cleaned them up, made adjustments to them to fit your liking.
Aside from yes, there are some other buildings not seen inworld anywhere else.
But so what, not everything has to be free for others to just take.
Myself like finding a very nicely built region that is just really nice to look at and enjoy visiting.
Sad that others cant just be happy that someone actually makes a beautiful region to let others enjoy seeing.

They don't grant sim owners the right to have anything unique on their sims if it means that there's something that they personally can't copy into their inventories. Or even box up and slap against a wall at their freebie store with no creator credits (or even implying they've made it).
It's those freebie hoarders who grab everything they see anywhere on a sim, regardless of whether or not they may have any use for it. They can't stand not being able to copy something.
As I've said, they demand that famous unique structures such as the Lbsa pyramid (https://opensimworld.com/hop/75039), the Sendalonde Library (https://opensimworld.com/hop/86758), the Lani Mall (https://opensimworld.com/hop/75049) or the Tromsø Arctic Church (https://opensimworld.com/hop/88457) be copyable for everyone and full-perm. I'm pretty sure that all these sims are being copybotted regularly because someone feels like having to "liberate" everything that can't be copied. And I'm also pretty sure that the owners of big freebie sims frequently have to reject boxes with these buildings inside sent to them because they've got enough common sense not to offer them.

On the one hand, if you make something good and generic enough that it could be very useful for others, as rarely as this happens, I don't see why you shouldn't share it, why you should keep it to yourself. Sure, it's dangerous to put unfinished WIPs on your sim full-perm because people may pick them up, not knowing they're unfinished, and maybe even put them in their freebie stores. But how many halfway modern residential or shop buildings do we have on the Hypergrid that aren't stolen from SL? If you decide to make some of these, you should really consider boxing them up and offering them to others.
On the other hand, there are cases in which it's fully justified not to share something. To stay with buildings, that could be a purpose-made club building that you've custom-built for your personal club, logo artwork and all. Your personal club is something that you may really want to be unique in all of the Hypergrid. You don't want your personal club building to pop up all around the Hypergrid, same layout, same look, same name and branding even, now, do you?
Look around older sims on the Hypergrid, especially event sims, but not only. Before people stopped building their own clubs and started only using copybotted SL buildings, custom-made event location buildings were very common. Buildings and other structures that represent grids or projects have pretty much always been custom creations only for this one purpose.
But I guess some of you are willing to give Ruritania zero stars because they can't go around and copy every last building, including Xiophia Hall. I guess some of you hold a grudge against the Sendalonde team for not making their library copyable and full-perm. I guess some of you can't understand why they can't copy all those unique buildings on Dorenas World like the central structure of Anachronia, the GridTalk Club or the Rock House (I'm pretty sure that Anachron doesn't want the same building with the same branding to appear anywhere else, also because it has been home to a weekly five-hour event for over 8 years now). I guess some of you have a huge problem with being unable to simply go and copy Cuteulala Artis' citadel building from a running sim instead of installing the OAR, more so the enlarged version from Neiferleaf. I guess some of you see it absolutely justified to fire up Hydrastorm and copybot Michigan Central Station from Detroit 4, the Arctic Cathedral from CCI Norge or the buildings on Mont-Saint-Michel from the eponymous sim because their makers are so "arrogant" as to not let everyone copy and share them the regular way.

If I picked it up somewhere for free and I use it for my region, then you should be able to copy it. I do build most of the architecture for my region as well as other things myself. if I want to share it, then I will put it at Masala Al Kohav boxed up. I also have a shop there with all original content of furniture and decor made by me. I am quite proud of my shop and the things I have created. A lot of the buildings in my region, I wish not to share at this time, though you will find some really cute builds at the mall including the cathedral I recently built.

YOU ARE SHARING... and they can enjoy your creations when they visit your sim. When you visit an ART gallery or a MUSEUM you do not get to take a copy of the ORIGINAL ART or the dinosaur bones home with you. So many people in Opensim and OTHER GRIDS have this attitude that anything they see they should be able to take. As a content developer, you have a right to exclusivity. I label my most popular attractions "not for sale" in the description. If there is something I made that someone wants bad enough, I will be happy to share my tips on making one for themselves which will be an ORIGINAL work. I would think that should have more value than something copied. Don't be put off by these selfish naysayers, continue doing your own thing, it is your time and resources. You will get so much more out of those who really appreciate your talent. Cheers!

Yes agreed, some people seem to be missing the point. OpenSim is only here for us to use, because hundreds of people have worked for no money, and shared their codes and softwares, so we can use them. It is really very rude to then hoarde our own creations to ourselves when we use OpenSim, it would be like going to a party and eating all the free food and drink available, then insisting that the bottle you brought with you was just for you and no-one else!

I agree i know it was like that back years ago with sharing and everyone helping others and now i see opensim grids are more turning into Secondlife Grids and not want to share items!! Once no copy or no transfer items you get items from any grid if other grid disappear or database issues then you won't be able to get another copy at all. But Secondlife is one closed grid with regions with no hypergrid is different thing.

Sure, I can understand creators who offer their content no-transfer. Some occasionally upgrade their creations, but they can only upgrade them on their own land. If their stuff was available at big freebie stores, it'd most likely stay outdated until the sim closes for good. This is even worse if freebie store owners decide to strip sales boxes of all "unnecessary cruft" such as notecards and landmarks. Then nobody knows where these boxes originally came from, and people won't go have a look and find new versions of what they've picked up at that big freebie store.
This is why Aaack Aardvark's sales boxes are no-transfer whereas their content isn't. This is also why you find outdated versions of the Clubmaster or Ruth 2.0 all across the Hypergrid.
On the other hand, if no-transfer content is exclusively available in a place that shuts down, chances are good it'll be lost forever. If you don't have god-mode, you can't even give this content to any new same-identity avatar of yours, much less share it with others. And layer clothes can't be god-moded as easily as objects.

Almost all of my stuff is Full Perm. I want people to be able to have it, transfer it to their other personalities, and share it with their friends. All I ask is don't change the name on it as I am putting my name on everything since so many things end up as creator unknown. Don't try to claim it as your own work. That is being a terrible person if you claim something that isn't your own creation. On the other hand, if you use something as part of a bigger build, then by all means, put your name on it, but if you know who the creator is of the piece you used, then give them some credit. Sadly a lot of times, you have no idea who originally created something unless their name is somehow attached to it. These people with shops that strip notecards, LMs, etc, and try to claim stuff as theirs...well they aren't fooling anyone with half a lick of sense. The thing that annoys me the most about no transfer, is clothing. I have some clothing that I have had since the beginning of my time in Open Sim and that is only because I was able to transfer it to my avatars on other grids. The first three grids I was on have all since closed. Thankfully I have been able to transfer all of my earlier builds again and again.

I've been in Open Sim now for several years and it was very much all about how many copy botted things from Second Life we could pack our land with rather than actually learning to build because we don't have to pay for every single texture we upload or for the mesh models we upload or for the photographs we take. There is so much that IS free to help people learn to build and design for themselves. Open Sim was never intended to be a "pack your cart with pirated SL stuff". It was intended for us to have the chance to be creative in our own right with out it costing a fortune to do so like it does in Second Life. I started out in Kitely and left because I could no longer afford it as I'm on a very fixed income. So I understand the plight of those who do not know how to build or use their viewer's capabilities to create and produce, but I made up my mind to do just that. It's not easy but in the end, it's worth every bit of the effort. And it isn't that I "don't" give my stuff away to people, I do, but not from my residential, role playing, educational and private regions - sorry but that stuff is mine. If folks want a copy they can get it at our mall region.

When I started Open Sim, there was not all the copy-botted stuff you see now. Classic avatars and prim and sculpted built furniture were the norm. I wish that all the copy-botted stuff had not made it to open sim and more folks learned to create themselves. I think a lot of the prim-built furniture is far more beautiful than the mesh stuff that all starts looking alike after a while. I have heard the term "Liberated From Second Life". I call BS. It is stealing plain and simple and you can't dress it up with pretty words and call it anything else other than theft. Someone..NOT the Lindens made that stuff and likely had to pay something to upload their textures, mesh, etc. So you are stealing from people just like you, not some corporate giant. Heck even if you are taking it from the Lindens...it is still stealing and you are a thief. That's the truth of it. That said...I think we all end up using some of the stuff..so we are all thieves. :)
