How often do you use Kitely marketplace for purchases?

I love that there is a marketplace for those who work hard and create original things can do some legitimate business. But, as several have said, it seems like kitely mp could use some competition. Perhaps a mp not affiliated with any grid, that takes a small cut for their services, allows gloebits, podex, paypal...and does not endorse, support, nor stop anyone from advertising what grids they have stores on and such.

This has been an interesting poll and what i feel can be summarised from this is the following points.
1) Opensim needs an improved MP
2) A MP that uses Gloebits as an option
3) Its easier to use a MP than spend hours searching for an item in HG.
4) A MP that is easier to use for all HG ie being able to upload creator items from the grid you are on rather than needing to do that from Kitely.
5) Better advertising of products that are available

I haven't bought anything on there yet. I do have some things on my wishlist I am considering, mainly hair as I haven't found a lot of good non-stolen hair options. The need to use Kitely credits for some purchases make them more expensive in the end due to the fee to purchase credits. Update: I did end up buying some hair so I adjusted my vote to rarely :)

One reason I do like Kitely is that it is very easy to give feedback, the owners of Kitely are right there for their customers, and for their creators, and that makes a huge difference. I urge those of you who think Kitely could do with improvement to get in touch with Ilan Tochner inworld or go to one of the Kitely community meetings, you will find your ideas are very appreciated.

I know Ilan, I have a Market store, I have a Kitely region, and I attend community meetings. Just because all of these are true doesn't mean the Kitely Market doesn't have room for improvement, but it does fill a big need for Opensim even in it's current form. We have had regular discussions about all the ideas mentioned here but they feel they don't need to change anything, which is their option since they own it, but clearly there is a large segment of Opensim that's not using it.

Some additional thoughts on why I do not use the Kitely Market. Many of us in the community really looked forward to it being brought in during its planning stages but then Kitely made some restrictive decisions which I feel really limited its reach. First of all its choice of not allowing KC credits to be a Hypergrid money option, then following it up with not allowing products to be purchased with Gloebits which at least was a hypergrid money option with better funding choices and then the icing on the cake was only allowing funding purchases through PayPal. That pretty much killed any motivation on my part to consider the Kitely Market as a viable option. I just looked over on their pages and see that ever after 9 or so years, PayPal is still their only payment option. Have to wonder how much business they didn't capture by not expanding its funding options.
Like the previous poster, I also value my time and don't care for spending a lot of time shopping. In SL for example, I purchase a lot of outfits through Stores sending out notices of new things on the market and my impulsive shopping habits are responsible for my inventory there containing much shiny. Kitely doesn't advertise the products it has on its Market through the Hypergrid (unlike some freebie stores) which does save me from breaking down and purchasing through the hated PayPal option for products that many of its creators charge a premium for if it is for someone on the Hypergrid. Finding specific items on its Marketplace I find even more difficult then the SecondLife market which has a bad reputation already.
Kitely is undoubtedly a reputable and trustworthy Grid and it has many good options but where its MarketPlace is concerned it seem more of an afterthought without much regard to advancing its reach to becoming a viable and better alternative to the Freebie market, even though I really did have high hopes for it in the beginning.

We all have different viewpoints and priorities. I consider my online time to be a precious resource. I love to build landscapes….. and to visit other builds.
For me personally, many times I would rather pay a Kitely merchant a couple dollars and have exactly what I want instantly versus spending countless hours searching all over the hypergrid.
I have no problem with people who prefer not to buy; however, I do have a problem with those who say “never buy in open sim” if it saves me time and let’s me do what I want to do in my virtual life.
I can use those same hours to enjoy building a landscape, something I dearly love.
I am aware that every single product on kitely is probably available for free somewhere in open sim, but searching countless hours is not how I enjoy spending my time.
I would also mention Luna and also Kayaker Magic are outstanding merchants….providing quality products and amazing customer service if you have questions.
Sure I use freebie stores, but have used Kitely a lot….and I appreciate the time it has saved!

To be fair, at least Heart Botanic and Skye are SL brands.
And there are many beaches in OpenSim built with pieces from the Skye kit that have been copybotted at some point in the past. You can tell this from three things: One, the pieces are full-perm which payware shouldn't be. Two, the sim owner obviously only has one or two different pieces in their inventory. Three, the sim owner obviously doesn't have any readme that must have come with the box either, telling from how they've used these pieces ("shelf beach" for example).
Now, I guess since this kit is available in OpenSim, hardly anyone would take the risk and steal them from SL.

I window shop on Kitely but don't typically make purchases from the marketplace. If I created content again, I might list items there for visibility but would include info on where to find them for free too. I wish the minimum export price could be set to less than $1 if desired.

I do too Araminta. It severely restricts how I price and market my items there. Personally I would prefer if I could either cash out Kitely Credits or have a Gloebit option instead of Paypal. Additionally, they don't allow you to mention your hypergrid stores at all in your listings, which further hampers broader hypergrid support. If you mention an inworld store at all it has to be a Kitely one, but my store on my Kitely region is dead no matter how much I advertise it. They think limiting mentions of other grids will enhance their own, but it has the opposite effect. They could be THE premier online market for Opensim, instead they're just the only one and it seems the simple majority of users don't use it.

Hi Luna, I wasn't aware they didn't allow mentioning HG stores, although I suppose it makes sense. Hosting, maintaining, backing up, and ensuring the uptime of the marketplace costs time and money. That's probably why there isn't another non-proprietary marketplace out there -- I doubt any individual would want to take on that responsibility. I agree though, they really could be THE marketplace for OpenSim and that the restrictions are likely hurting more than helping.

I've had a store on the Marketplace for a few years and I shop for clothes there. The Marketplace is primarily where shoppers find my builds since very few people actually shop in my in-world stores

I have not used Kitely marketplace. I get everything for free from freebie stores. With that said, I have never stolen or copybotted a single thing from secondlife. I do not believe in stealing.

I made one purchase early on for a mesh body where the creator promised future updates but never saw a one, so it lies at the bottom of my closet, the most expensive body I have ever bought in any world and the most useless. Most of the items on that marketplace are overpriced in my opinion and the limit on not allowing free or low cost items stops me from even window shopping.

I did once or twice. But to have contact with seller, was pointless. Had a problem, and no response.
