Manchmal wünsche ich mir
nicht viel.

Kein Recht behalten.
Keine Fahnen,
die höher wehen als das Herz.

Nur einen langen Tisch.

Einen Platz,
an dem niemand zuerst gefragt wird,
woher er kommt,
wen er liebt,
welchen Namen Gott für ihn trägt
oder welche Sprache seine Kindheit hatte.

Nur einen Stuhl.

Und Zeit.

Zeit, einander anzusehen,
ohne Misstrauen in den Augen.
Zeit, ein Lächeln zu teilen,
bevor ein Urteil fällt.

Vielleicht würden wir entdecken,
dass Brot überall gleich duftet.
Dass Kinder überall gleich lachen.
Dass Tränen
keine Religion kennen.

Vielleicht würden wir merken,
wie klein der Abstand zwischen Menschen ist,
wenn niemand Mauern dazwischen baut.

An diesem Tisch
dürfte jeder erzählen.

Von seiner Heimat.
Von seiner Hoffnung.
Von seinem Schmerz.

Und niemand müsste lauter sprechen
als der andere.

Ich weiß,
es ist nur ein Traum.

Aber jeder Frieden
war einmal nichts weiter
als der mutige Wunsch eines Menschen,

dass eines Tages

alle

an einem Tisch sitzen.

All at One Table

Sometimes I don't wish for much.

Not to be right.
No flags waving higher than the heart.

Just a long table.

A place where no one is first asked where they come from, whom they love, what name God has for them, or what language they spoke as a child.

Just a chair.

And time.

Time to look at each other without suspicion in our eyes.
Time to share a smile before judgment is passed.

Perhaps we would discover that bread smells the same everywhere. That children laugh the same everywhere. That tears know no religion.

Perhaps we would realize how small the distance between people is when no one builds walls between them.

At this table, everyone could tell their story.

About their homeland.
About their hope.
About their pain.

And no one would have to speak louder than anyone else.

I know,
it's just a dream.

But every peace
was once nothing more
than the courageous wish of one person,

that one day

everyone

would sit at one table.
