In "As a Man Thinketh," British philosopher James Allen wrote, “Self-control is strength. Right thought is mastery. Calmness is power.” The book title is said to have been influenced by chapter 23, verse 7, in the Book of Proverbs : "As a man thinketh in his heart, so is he".
At the time the book was published, in 1903, Morgan Freeman was negative 34 years old. There is no evidence that Freeman, dead, alive, or not yet born, ever said any of the text in the picture, and certainly not "Self-control is strength." As Einstein said, "Do not believe everything you read or see on the internet."

As much as I am a person who doesn't follow Allen or Philosophy much, that is a very true statement.
I merely conveyed my opinion that I "personally" don't like Freeman and put zero value upon his opinions. As for Einstein's statement you made, the internet didn't exist until about 20 years after he died.

So I didn't intend to get into a philosophical debate nor derail this topic into Freeman, merely pointed out the facts of why I discount anything someone types onto a Jpeg image and spreads it around, glorifying Freeman who was just a HS graduate and E3 in the Air Force.
For the benefit of the site, at least it stayed civil and constructive. Instead of the usual As The Grid Turns drama by green goblins living under a bridge charging travelers a toll.

One last thing. You mentioned Morgan Freeman's United States Air Force rank a couple of times. (He turned down a college scholarship to enlist). Fortunately, he wasn't wounded, captured or killed in service. I understand, on good authority, that would have made him a real sucker and loser!

Einstein? Internet? It's a joke. A joke! It illustrates the point I was making. Now, unfortunately, back to the topic, "Famous People and the Things They Never Said."
The reason for attributing a quote to a famous person is not to glorify the person. It's an attempt to persuade someone by use of what I call "borrowed authority."
If I post a picture of myself with the text, "God helps those who help themselves," would anyone even notice it, much less be persuaded by the idea? But use a picture of Jesus instead, and it will be noticed, and likely believed.
Except, Jesus never said that. It was said in 1698 by Algernon Sidney, an English politician, and published by Benjamin Franklin in Poor Richard’s Almanac. I'm not sure either of them were any kind of experts when it came to god. But people who want to promote the idea can borrow the authority granted Jesus by believers to support the statement. (In fact, some consider the expression contrary to the message of the bible).
Borrowed authority. It's a wonderful thing if you want to win an argument by pretending someone well-known said what you want to be believed.

Yes I got the joke part, didn't need it explained. But I appreciate your explanation of borrowed authority, however my only critique of it is can be misinterpreted as plagiarized.

Depends how you define scientific in the context of emotional regulation. Are you measuring or observing? Also need to define what weak, strong and intelligent means. Is he saying that intelligent people have more control over their emotions or is it intelligent to control them? Can someone with a lower IQ than Einstein have control over their emotions making them intelligent? So many questions so little time, would take decades long research and funding to come up with the solutions to it. :)

Personally, I can't stand Morgan Freeman. What he said is true, but spent so many words just to convey a single word, as is typical of him. The guy is literally a HS graduate and only made E-3 in the military, but has convinced the world, that he is some kind of philosophy professor. It's like listening to the wisdom of a convenience store clerk. Because he played some roles, people think his knowledge is divine.

I can see that being some truth. So essentially what you say is both Patience and Tolerance are learned abilities. When you learn to ride a bike, you learn to balance which becomes a natural ability that you do not have to think about. When you pedal and steer the bike down a long road, you consciously turn left and right, but unconsciously balance. Which do you define patience and tolerance? As steering or balance?
