Want to bring an animated GIF into your OpenSim world?

Gif2SL by Gonta Maltz is a small, free Windows utility that converts an animated GIF into a sequential PNG texture sheet that can be animated on a prim.

You can use Gif2SL to create swimming fish, crawling ants, animated signs, and other moving effects. Once you understand how it works, there are a lot of fun possibilities for bringing extra life and movement into a region.

How to use Gif2SL:

Download Gif2SL here:

Open the program and click Load GIF.
Select the animated GIF you want to convert.
If your GIF has a transparent background, check Transparency so the alpha channel is preserved.
Click Output.
Gif2SL converts the animation into a single PNG sprite sheet containing the animation frames.
The output filename includes the horizontal frames, vertical frames, and frames-per-second information needed for the animation.
Upload the finished PNG texture to your grid.
Place the texture into a prim along with the free animation script available from Outworldz.
The script calculates the frames and speed and plays your animation inworld.

That’s it!

Think beyond signs and screens. You can experiment with animals, insects, water effects, magical effects, moving decorations, animated displays, and whatever else you can dream up.

For those not aware, OSFest is now a fully Hypergrid festival where you can host events on your own grid or grab some space on the OSFest grid to exhibit or setup a store. Before OSFest in September, OSGrid tends to run its fundraiser which is why we didn't choose dates in that month. Following OSFest, Hypergrid International Expo will be in November then OSCC likely in December. Fall is busy on the Hypergrid with many other events happening so hopefully some of those will join in the fun with remote events instead of schedule conflicts so we can send them some avatars too Let's celebrate each other together. I was creating a Landing Area for New People from Sinespace who have never been in Opensim and I thought I would post the most basic that most people look over for Mesh Clothing. Just my thoughts. BOM is back with some Mesh avatars.

Another example of how it looks like when one can paint your own texture on SIM ground.Mountains on background are part of the sim, terraformed. the one at bottom, mesh. You don`t even see the difference anymore.
