A statement:

This is a world for avatars. If you put your avatar face in the profile, instead of the standard default picture, you get much more reactions and attention for your posts here in the forum. A standard profile picture does not specifically encourage you to open an account and take a closer look. If a profile is not maintained, the contributions and grid are usually the same. It takes effort, patience and perseverance to get people on his grid. Action = reaction. This is never quick! ;-)

Aktion = Reaktion. Das geht nie auf die schnelle! ;-)

Re-posted on behalf of DJ Azraella.

Why Never Neverworld.

There is something particularly bleak about a community calling itself “The Friendly Grid” while apparently treating abusive behaviour as a problem best solved by telling the person on the receiving end: “You have a mute button.” Welcome to Neverworld Grid, where, judging by my experience, “friendly” may be less a standard of conduct than a decorative slogan attached to the front door.

I was a DJ in a virtual worlds for years lately as a visiting performer at Neverworld. By the point this incident occurred, however, my personal circumstances had changed. I am dying. That is not written for melodrama or sympathy. It matters because it explains what it cost me physically to be there at all. Despite being seriously ill and largely confined to bed, I got out of bed and DJed one final event to say thank you to my audience for supporting me and to draw people in one last time, which also helped to promote Neverworld Grid.

The reward was memorable, although perhaps not in quite the way their promotional department might prefer. During the event, I was verbally attacked and abused by a member of Neverworld Grid.

Behind every avatar is a human being. The fact that an interaction takes place in a virtual world does not make the behaviour, or its effect on another person, imaginary. The following day, despite the physical toll, I got out of bed again and raised a formal complaint with the owner of Neverworld Grid. I expected, at minimum, the complaint to be taken seriously. What I encountered instead was dismissal. No action was taken against the resident. My complaint was pretty much ignored and seen as nothing other than an interpersonal issue despite the fact I was a victim of one of their residents.

And then came this: “You have a mute button.”

And there, in five small words, lies the much larger problem. Of course I have a mute button. A mute button is a useful tool for an individual. It is not a substitute for moderation. Those are two entirely different things. A mute button allows the recipient to stop hearing somebody's behaviour. Moderation determines whether that behaviour is acceptable within the community in the first place. Confusing the two produces a wonderfully convenient system for administrators: the offender remains, the complainant makes them disappear from view, and management is spared the disagreeable business of actually managing anything. Problem solved. Well, invisible, which is apparently close enough. Imagine applying this philosophy anywhere else. Someone behaves disgracefully in a cinema and the management responds: 'you can use ear-plugs.' One can only admire the efficiency. No difficult confrontation. No standards requiring enforcement. No possibility of upsetting a patron who may have a life-time ticket. Just mute and carry on.

Neverworld Grid presents itself with the tagline: “The friendly grid.” That is precisely why this incident matters. If you advertise friendliness as part of your identity, then friendliness ceases to be merely a pleasant aspiration. It becomes a claim about the community you operate. And claims should survive contact with reality. A genuinely friendly community is not one in which nobody ever behaves badly. Such a place does not exist outside advertising copy and unusually optimistic children's television. A friendly community is one in which antisocial behaviour is taken seriously when it occurs. It is demonstrated by what administrators do when unfriendliness becomes inconvenient. That is the test. Not the logo. Not the website. Not the slogan. Not smiling avatars standing beneath carefully selected promotional photographs. The test comes when somebody crosses the line and management has to decide whether its proclaimed standards actually mean anything.

In my case, I believe Neverworld Grid failed that test spectacularly. I cannot state why the owner chose not to take action. Only the owner can answer that. But users are entitled to ask uncomfortable questions when enforcement appears absent.

What behaviour actually results in consequences?
Does a resident's financial contribution affect how complaints concerning them are handled?
Are paying residents subject to precisely the same behavioural standards as visitors are?
What happens after a formal complaint?
And perhaps most importantly: What behaviour would actually be serious enough for Neverworld Grid management to intervene rather than telling the recipient, “You have a mute button”? These are questions created by the apparent absence of action. If Neverworld Grid wants people to believe that payment of tier guarantees renters a friendly safe place, there is a very simple way of showing it: Have standards and apply them.

There is another unpleasant implication to the “you have a mute button” response. It transfers responsibility. The person accused of behaving abusively does not apparently need to change their behaviour. Instead, the person experiencing it must change theirs. You must mute. You must avoid. You must adapt. Management remains comfortably above the unpleasantness while the individual affected quietly rearranges their virtual existence around somebody else's deplorable conduct. That isn't moderation. It is outsourcing moderation to the victim. And it creates an obvious incentive for the worst personalities in any community: behave however you please as long as you keep paying. Eventually you can achieve the remarkable distinction of being peacefully surrounded by people who either tolerate you or cannot see or hear you. Community harmony, achieved through selective deafness as decreed by management.

There is another aspect of this which a mute button cannot undo: the physical effect of the encounter has already happened. Verbal abuse is not experienced solely as words arriving through speakers or appearing on a screen. Human beings respond physically to confrontation and distress. The body does not first consult the graphics card to determine whether an attack is sufficiently real to react to it. For a healthy person, that reaction can be deeply unpleasant. For somebody who is dying, already seriously ill and functioning with greatly diminished reserves, the consequences of that stress can carry considerably greater weight and could even be the last stress that body can take. And once that distress has occurred, telling the person “you have a mute button” is not a remedy.

The button cannot take you backwards in time. It cannot prevent the encounter that already happened. It cannot erase the stress already inflicted. And it certainly cannot answer the question of why the behaviour that caused the complaint apparently attracted no consequence. There is a peculiar cruelty in dismissing that distinction which no amount of virtual-world branding can disguise.

I did not expect sainthood. I did not expect somebody to erect a statue of my avatar outside the welcome centre. I expected basic human decency and a complaint to be treated seriously.

Apparently that must be the 'Super Ultimate Friend of the Owner' premium feature. Neverworld Grid calls itself friendly. People considering investing their time, creativity, communities and money there should understand what “friendly” meant when my complaint was placed in front of its owner. Because communities reveal themselves not through their slogans but through the behaviour they are prepared to tolerate. Anybody can write: “We are the friendly grid.” The interesting question is what happens when somebody isn't friendly. In my experience, the answer was depressingly simple: Nothing. The complaint was effectively binned. Apparently making bad actors into clouds is your only option meanwhile Management avoided doing anything meaningful other than preserve a monthly tier payment. And the slogan will survive. Perhaps that is the most impressive achievement of all. In virtual worlds, apparently even irony can be rendered in 3D.

Neverworld Grid also seems very keen on telling people that it isn't Second Life.

Second Life gets plenty of criticism, some of it deserved. One complaint you hear is that region owners can make their own rules and, if you don't follow them, eject or ban you. That can certainly be irritating. People can make ridiculous rules. People can throw you out for reasons you think are unfair. Give somebody control over a virtual patch of land and occasionally they begin behaving as though Buckingham Palace has asked for the keys back. But there is another side to it. If you enter somebody's region, you know they have rules and that breaking them can have consequences. If you behave badly enough, somebody can actually do something about it. After my experience with Neverworld Grid, I find myself wondering why removing that is supposed to be an improvement. If the alternative to somebody saying “These are the rules here” is somebody behaving abusively and the person being abused getting told “You have a mute button,” which system is actually friendlier?

There has to be some middle ground between petty little dictators throwing people off regions because they don't like the colour of their shoes and a free-for-all where nobody wants to intervene.
Rules can be abused. So can the absence of rules. The difference is that when there are sensible community standards, ordinary people know where they stand. Don't abuse people. Don't deliberately disrupt things. Don't make somebody else's experience miserable. Hardly tyranny. And if somebody does cross those lines, there should be consequences. Neverworld seems to dislike the way people in Second Life exercise control over their own regions. Fine. But what is being offered instead? If the answer is greater freedom, then whose freedom are we talking about? The freedom of somebody to enjoy an event without being abused? Or the freedom of somebody to behave however they like without anybody in authority becoming involved? Because those freedoms collide eventually. Mine did. And apparently I had a mute button.

Then there is the question of tier. People pay to be on grids like this. That makes it reasonable to ask whether somebody who keeps paying can expect considerably more tolerance than somebody who just visits but still contributes to the success of the grid. I cannot prove that this is what happened in my case. But the response I received certainly gives me reason to ask. If somebody pays tier and behaves disgracefully, what happens? Are they warned? Are there consequences? Or does everybody they upset simply get reminded where the mute button is? Because if the practical message becomes: Pay your tier and management will look the other way, then who exactly does that attract? Most decent people don't need immunity from basic standards of behaviour. Creators don't need it. DJs don't need it. People running events don't need it. People who simply want somewhere pleasant to spend a few hours don't need it. The people who benefit most from a place where bad behaviour carries few consequences are, rather obviously, the people most likely to behave badly. That seems an extraordinary foundation for something calling itself “The Friendly Grid.”

There is nothing wrong with wanting to be different from Second Life. But different does not automatically mean better. If Second Life says, in effect, “behave yourself here or somebody may throw you out,” while Neverworld's answer to abuse is “you have a mute button,” I know which approach now looks more like a community and which looks more like an incompetent Management avoidance strategy. Being different is easy. Being better requires rather more than a tagline. If Neverworld Grid believes this account misrepresents its standards, it can explain them.

What happens when someone reports serious verbal abuse? What behaviour actually results in action?
Are paying residents treated exactly the same as everyone else? And why was “You have a mute button” considered an adequate response to my complaint?

Those answers would tell people considerably more about Neverworld Grid than any slogan ever could.
Until then, perhaps the tagline deserves a small amendment:

“Neverworld Grid — The Friendly Grid. You have a mute button.”
or
" Welcome to Neverworld the Friendly Grid where you may have to mute your fellow residents"
or perhaps as almost happened in my case:
" Neverworld the Friendly Grid (we let you away with murder just keep paying you'll see)"

The bottom line has to be this:

If you claim friendliness you automatically accept a duty of care to all users. and paying doesn't excuse unfriendliness. Community standards you claim must be enforced swiftly and across all tiers of membership and extend to visitors. I was told my abuser hadn't broken any TOS. I guess there is no actual TOS beyond the owner's mood. Yes you guessed it my abuser is a friend of the owner.

My final advice to anyone looking for a new home...lift the carpets before you decide.

I won't see a resolution to this issue or see Virtual again but that doesn't mean you can't learn from my experience.

Oar creation kiosk at Holoneon. We wrote an Oar archive server that's much faster than the one built into opensimulator region server, without torching the processor cores. an average region with a few buildings and furniture takes about 10 seconds to create. loaded region takes maybe 10 minutes or so. The software queues up jobs and runs two at a time if needed. Some of the speed gained is due to switching to RFC 8878 compression in our custom assetd server instead of using legacy gzip from the 90's RFC 8878 is used in OpenZFS and is much more performant than gz. To create an oar touch the kiosk in welcome and you will see a list of all your regions with links to create, download and delete oar files. This is still beta so you should test out restore on a different grid/region and let me know if you have any issues.

🎧 Tribute to Maldrul Smith
(Written in your voice, with your heart)

Today, I lost one of the dearest friends I’ve ever had in OpenSim — Maldrul Smith. My heart is breaking in ways I can barely put into words. Mal wasn’t just a friend… he was one of those rare souls who made life feel lighter just by being present. Kind, compassionate, gentle, and always a true gentleman — that was Mal.

He had a sweetness about him that never felt forced. A warmth that wrapped around you the moment he spoke. And oh, his wit — always sharp, always playful, always ready to make me laugh when I needed it most. Mal was fun, interesting, thoughtful, and full of life. He was one of the few people I could talk to openly and honestly, without fear, without hesitation. He understood me. He listened. He cared.

And when he DJ’d…
He brought magic into the room.
His sets weren’t just music — they were moments.
He knew how to lift spirits, how to create atmosphere, how to make people feel connected.
He played from the heart, and you could feel it every time.

Mal, I’ll miss you so much.
I’ll miss your voice, your humor, your kindness, your presence.
I’ll miss the way you made the world feel a little softer.
You were one of the few and far‑between people who truly mattered to me.
One of the dearest friends I’ve ever had in OpenSim.

Thank you for being exactly who you were — a sweet man, a compassionate soul, a gentleman, a friend.
Rest in peace, my sweet friend.
You will never be forgotten.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
💛 Prayer for Maldrul Smith
Father God,
Another dear friend has left this world, and my heart is breaking. Maldrul Smith was such a close and precious friend to me — kind, compassionate, gentle, and full of warmth. He was the kind of man whose presence made life feel lighter. A sweet soul, a true gentleman, and one of the most genuine people I’ve ever known.
Lord, I thank You for the gift of his friendship.
For his wit, his humor, his kindness, and the way he made every conversation feel meaningful.
He was one of the few people I could talk to openly, honestly, and without fear.
He was rare — one of the dearest friends I had in OpenSim, and losing him leaves a space that hurts deeply.
Father, hold him close now.
Let his spirit rest in Your peace.
Let him feel the love of those who cherished him.
Let him be surrounded by Your light, Your comfort, and Your eternal rest.
Mal… I’ll miss you so much.
Rest in peace, my sweet friend.
You will always be remembered with love.
Amen.
A gentle reminder to the self-appointed critics of the metaverse:
When you visit a curated experience and leave a one star review because you could not follow the rules, the theme or the personal boundaries set by the sysop, you are not exposing a flaw in the build. You are exposing YOURSELF.
Dismayland works like a carnival ride. You must be this tall to enter. This is not a suggestion. This is not negotiable. This is not a personal attack on your creative choices. It is a sign on a gate; read it.
Dismayland has height restrictions. It has had them. The compliance system has been OFFLINE for TWO WEEKS and people are STILL offended by the concept of it. That is remarkable. The gate does not even have teeth right now and the outrage is fully operational.
YOU READ THAT RIGHT ... the GATE has been down and these ORACLES of Wisdom never even bothered to check, no need to mention names, their self indictment is already on the wall.
This is the beauty of themed experiences; they are not for everyone and they are not supposed to be. If the child gate offends you, congratulations; it is working exactly as designed. Dismayland is a demusement park. The clue is in the name. The misery is the point. THE INCONVENIENCE IS THE ART.
As a bonus feature, the same system that checks your height also has opinions about poorly imported stolen Second Life meshes, that is an intriguing and welcome side effect. Dismayland enforces restrictions fairly as part of the user experience.
One star because you "dislike the policy" is not a review. It is a confession. One star because "the region recognized your self entitlement and processed you" is far more truthful and entertaining.
We thank you for your contribution to the experience. Your reaction has been noted, cataloged, and will be used as evidence that we are doing something right.
DISMAYLAND SECURITY IS DOWN until the MAIN LK EVENT (TBA)
At that time: COSTUME MANAGEMENT and ENFORCEMENT goes into effect.
I promise... that will end the complaints about the HEIGHT SCANNER... Muah ha ha ha ha ha!
In OpenSimulator, some region creators are choosing PBR materials—and the results are impressive! ✨ PBR makes textures truly come alive: it accurately conveys reflections, roughness, and light refraction. Stone appears cold and rough, metal smooth and shiny, wood warm and textured. Landscapes, buildings, and details—everything looks more three-dimensional and realistic. Even clothing takes on new, beautiful properties. This isn't just a graphics upgrade, it's a new level of immersion: every corner of the region, every object, makes you want to look at it again and again. Explore the worlds of OpenSimulator—they're especially beautiful now! 😍
I have added a modified Auto Return script.
The original behavior could be inconvenient when using vehicles for exploration. For example, if you traveled by boat, car, or another vehicle and then exited it at your destination, the vehicle would immediately auto-return, leaving you stranded. The alternative was for region owners to disable auto-return entirely, which isn't always desirable.
This modified script changes that behavior. The vehicle will now only auto-return if the driver leaves the region. This allows you to park your vehicle while you enjoy an adventure, picnic, sightseeing, or any other activity, and still have it available for your return trip. Once you leave the region, the vehicle will automatically return itself, keeping the area organized without interrupting your outing.
Update: I’ve also added a water bobbing script for the boat. The bobbing effect is active when the boat is stationary, and it automatically suspends while underway so you can sail smoothly. Once the boat comes to a stop, the bobbing resumes, allowing it to float naturally on the water until movement begins again.
Update: Fixed an issue where the script would not automatically return when a player logged out. Also resolved a bug that caused returned vehicles and objects to lose their original rotation.
Update: Fixed issue where ship would eventually list: Latest is beta 3c.
Wolf Territories Grid — Everyone Belongs Here
Wolf Territories Grid is a home for everyone, and that absolutely includes our LGBTQA+ residents, builders, and visitors. Lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer, questioning, intersex, asexual, and every
identity and orientation across our community — you are welcome here exactly as you are.
A virtual world should be one of the freest places to be yourself: to shape your avatar, choose your name and pronouns, build the spaces you dream of, and find the people who get you. We celebrate that
freedom. Self-expression, gender identity, and who you love are yours to define, and they will always be respected on this grid.
We hold this as a firm commitment, not just a sentiment:
- Respect is the baseline. We use the names and pronouns people give us, and we treat each other with dignity.
- No tolerance for hate. Harassment, slurs, outing someone, or discrimination based on sexual orientation, gender identity, or gender expression have no place here and will be acted on.
- Your space is your own. Whether you're here to socialise, create, role-play, or simply exist in peace, you have the right to do so safely.
- We listen. If something happens that makes you feel unwelcome or unsafe, our team wants to know, and we'll take it seriously.
To our LGBTQA+ community: thank you for being part of what makes Wolf Territories Grid vibrant, creative, and kind. The door is open, the territory is yours too, and you never have to be anyone but yourself
here.
🏳‍🌈 You're welcome. You're valued. You belong.
💎 Reborn + Waifu – Schönheit mit Rückgrat
Das hier ist kein Look, das ist ein Statement mit Nachhall.
Spitze, Leder, Transparenz – jedes Detail flüstert: „Ich weiß, was ich tue.“
Reborn spielt mit der Eleganz, Waifu mit der Versuchung – und beide tanzen auf der Grenze zwischen Kunst und Attitüde.
Hier wird nicht gefragt, ob man darf. Hier wird entschieden, dass man kann.
Ein Outfit, das keine Bühne braucht, weil es selbst eine ist.
Es ist der Moment, in dem Stil und Selbstbewusstsein sich verschwören – und das Ergebnis trägt High Heels.
Reborn + Waifu: Für alle, die nicht glänzen wollen, sondern leuchten.
Ensemble is now complete at release candidate 1.
The LSL and PHP scripts are all available in the script library at https://opensimworld.com/library?view=167 and the full manual is available at https://www.glenysbieler.com/ensemble/ in word, pdf, and web view.
The HUD itself can be made using the LSL scripts - but a copy is also available pre-built in my store at Sub-Version Mall (https://opensimworld.com/hop/93827). I havent yet put a teleport up at the landing point for the Ensemble store (and it is "in progress") but the hud is available to obtain there.
Please feel free to use the provided hosting - or use the PHP scripts in the scripts library to host yourself.
Feel free to report any bugs - but no "support" is guaranteed (but ofc I will always try and help).
Rocket Racoon: Very cool, I will start to look at this for wardrobe optimization :D thank you. 2 months ago
Open your profile → API keys
2 – Rez the Weather Sculpts (You will find them inside the box "WEATHER SCULPT SET V8A (BOX)".
Rez the weather sculpts across your region - around buildings etc -
I recommend going on infra-red mode (Firestorm) by clicking CONTROL+ALT+T.
Select all sculpts →LINK THEM ALL and insert on the root prim (just select them all) and insert the script called "OpenSIM ONLINE SCULPT V8A (SLAVE)". (*)
(*) THIS SCRIPT AND ALL OTHERS USED ON THIS SYSTEM can be found at the box called "SCRIPTS USED V8A (BOX)".
3- Insert some of the textures included on the "TEXTURES FOR SCULPTS V8A (BOX)" that can be found inside the box "SCRIPTS USED V8A (BOX)"
Textures on the root prim of the linked sculpts MUST be "clear,r1,r2,r3,r4,sr1,sr2,sr3,s1,s2,s3 and s4 to script work perfectly. By default, all pieces of sculpts have already the needed textures so to not worry :)
4 –SET UP THE SYSTEM:
Rez the controller "OpenSIM Online Weather Controller V8A (MASTER) 02 prims" and click it. A dialog menu (blue menu) will prompt:
-> Choose the name of the city (English only - other languages or misspelled, script won`t fetch information). If a city name like Springfield (USA) is selected and there are 5 on that country, script will select a random one - on these cases, type "Springfield,IL,US" (Illinois, United States) so script will fetch information from the correct place. Another option is also select by lat/lon mode (latitude/longitude).
-> Click again, and insert the API KEY generated by the website.
-> Click once more, now insert the interval. and that s it.
It will send information to all soundboxes, sculpts, thunderboxes rezzed if in within same region!
Rez the display board next to the controller "OpenSIM Online Weather Display Board V8A (SLAVE) 11 prims"
-> Click the controller and click the "Update Now" button.
This action updates the info on the display board.
***** Please be patient. All changes on the dialog box, script may take up to 15 seconds to fetch the information!*****************************
5 – Optional: Add Sound & Thunder & Cloud & Nothern Lights:
Plays drizzle, rain, and blizzard sounds when told by the controller..
If no bad weather: plays birds (day) or crickets (night).
In version V8A, there are now two types of SoundBoxes:
OpenSIM ONLINE SOUNDBOX V8A (SLAVE MAIN);
OpenSIM ONLINE SOUNDBOX V8A (SLAVE SLAVE).
How to set up:
-Rez as many “OpenSIM ONLINE SOUNDBOX V8A (SLAVE SLAVE)” objects as needed in your region (optional);
- Link them all together;
- Rez only one “OpenSIM ONLINE SOUNDBOX V8A (SLAVE MAIN)”;
- Link all the previously linked SoundBoxes to this one.
Important: For this to work, “OpenSIM ONLINE SOUNDBOX V8A (SLAVE MAIN)” must be the root prim (the last object selected when linking). It is the box that contains the script.
And voilà — you now use one script for all SoundBoxes, and the sound will be emitted from each of them in near-perfect synchronization.
(ps) I recommend rezing them close to buildings or common public areas. DO NOT rez the sounboxes too close to each other. Believe me ,Spam sound will be unpleasant for the visitors and it won`t sound natural to your ears!
SOUNDBOXES NOW HAVE THE NIGHT SOUND (THE CRICKETS) SUPPRESSION!
* The script checks the object’s latitude and the current month!
* Tropics (≤ latitude 30°) → night sounds always play.
* Polar regions (≥ latitude 60°) → night sounds are always blocked.
* Mid-latitudes (latitude 30°–60°) → gradual suppression:
* In winter months (depending on latitude), night sounds are blocked.
* In summer months, "night" sounds play normally.
* The script stops "night" sound if suppression applies; "day","rain", "drizzle" and "snow" sounds always play normally.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
-> Opensim ONLINE THUNDERBOX V8A (SLAVE):
Plays a thunder sound and flashes lightning when told by the controller.
When rezzed, by default it is invisible, please go to infra-red mode (control alt+t) to see and resize it to your needs.
PS. To test it, please add as a hud (or just add it) the "OPENSIM
Thunder Caller (MASTER) HUD" and click it. Once you see the size and position are ok, this script is no longer necessary.
Be patient. Thunder sound and the lighting will show on a random interval of time from 10 seconds to 05 minutes.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
-> OpenSIM ONLINE CLOUD V8A (SLAVE):
4x4 sized sculpt cloud to rez in your region - It will show when the weather conditions told by the controller when it asks to. Otherwise it will remain invisible.
No setup needed
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
-> OpenSIM ONLINE Aurora Borealis V8A (SLAVE).
4x4 sized mesh to rez in your region - it will show only at nights (sun position OpenSIM ONLINE EEP ADDON (SLAVE) V8A
This add-on automatically changes the region EEP sky according to the weather conditions received from the OpenSim Online Weather Controller.
1. Rez the object named:
"OpenSIM Online EEP ADDON (SLAVE) V8A 01 prim"
2. Place it anywhere in the region.
3. Ensure the following EEP settings are present inside the prim inventory:
TCLEAR
PCLEAR
PCLOUDY
CLOUDY
FOGGY
4. The script will listen for weather data sent by the Weather Controller and automatically apply the corresponding EEP sky.
PERMISSIONS REQUIRED
The object must be rezzed by the Region Owner or by a user with Estate Manager rights.
Otherwise the script will not have permission to change the region environment.
IMPORTANT NOTES
• This add-on changes only the region EEP sky preset according to the weather condition.
• It does NOT modify the region time offset.
• It does NOT change the day length or sun cycle.
• These parameters remain controlled by the region’s existing environment settings.
OPERATION
Once rezzed and running, the add-on works automatically.
No configuration or user interaction is required.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
-OpenSIM LIGHTHOUSE ADDON (SLAVE) V8A — 07 prims
OVERVIEW
--------
The Lighthouse Add-on integrates with the OpenSim Online Weather System. It listens for weather data broadcast by the Weather Controller (Master) and responds automatically:
• When fog or reduced-visibility conditions are detected, the lights turn ON and
a fog horn sounds at regular intervals. (once each 90 seconds)
• When conditions clear, the lights return to their normal automatic day/night cycle.
IMPORTANT — READ BEFORE REZZING
---------------------------------
This add-on comes in TWO separate pieces:
1. The lighthouse building
2. The light beam with reflector
⚠ DO NOT LINK THEM TOGETHER. They must remain as two independent objects.
SETUP
-----
Simply rez both pieces in your region. No additional configuration is required.
The system works SIM-wide regardless of where the objects are placed.
LIGHT MODES
-----------
Click the reflector (owner only) to cycle through the available light modes:
Mode 0 — Lights Always Off
Mode 1 — Lights Always On
Mode 2 — Automatic (day/night cycle) ← default
Note: During active fog conditions, the lights and fog horn sound are always forced ON regardless of the selected mode. When conditions clear, the previous mode resumes automatically.
TESTING
-------
To verify the lighthouse is working correctly, attach the included HUD:
"OPENSIM Lighthouse FOG HORN Caller (MASTER) HUD V8A (add me)"
This HUD allows you to manually trigger the fog horn and confirm the system
is responding as expected.
WEATHER CONDITIONS THAT ACTIVATE THE SYSTEM
---------------------------------------------
The lighthouse activates under the following weather conditions:
Mist · Smoke · Haze · Dust Whirls · Fog
Sand · Dust · Volcanic Ash · Squalls · Tornado
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
📌 Notes
-Keep your API key private — free plan allows ~1,000 calls/day (enough if you set 15-minute intervals).
-Make sure city name is spelled correctly in English.
After changing settings or resetting the script, it may take up to 15 seconds for the menu to reload and fetch the new information to display.
BE PATIENT!
Don’t worry — your settings are saved inside the prim in case of script replacement, script or SIM reset!
FAQ
1 – What does “Master” and “Slave” mean?
Master script = The boss.
Goes online to fetch live weather.
Sends the result (via channel messages) to all connected objects.
Slave script = The worker.
Never goes online (saves lag). Just listens for the Master’s messages and updates textures, sounds, or lights.
📡 Example:
Master says: “Weather code 502 = heavy rain”.
All Slaves hear it → they switch to rain textures and respective sound.
👉 In short:
Master = speaks.
Slave = listens.
Channel = the walkie-talkie frequency they use.
􀀀
2 – Does the script works on a certain distance or on the whole region?
- It works SIM-wide, no matter if your SIM is 1x1 or 12x12 or if any object from this weather system is rezzed 1,000 meters high (*). it will work!
(*) Certain grids limit script activity up to - from 4,000 to 10,000 meters max high - check with your grid owner!
3- Can I rez more than 1 cluster of sculpts on my region?
Yes! Here an example on what I do on my 8x8 SIM called TROMSO: 8x8 VAR with 4 different places, so I put the "OpenSIM ONLINE SCULPT V8A (SLAVE)" on each of the clusters!. no matter how many cluster you have on your region, they ALL call just a single API from website!
SO LOW LAG FOR YOUR REGION!
4- I rezzed the SOUND BOXES but I only hear the birds or just hear the crickets?
- Make sure the sky (EEP) (**) is time zoned. If you play day on your sim (static sky), script reads the sun position on the sky. If sun is =>8 degrees above the horizon ,script will be told its DAY! If < 8 degrees, script will be told its NIGHT!
(**) EEP that come with this weather system are properly time zoned.
5- I rezzed the "OpenSIM Online Cloud V8A (SLAVE)" and I don`t see anything!
- If you have rezzed the controller before, if it fetches info from website and it says it not cloudy", the "OpenSIM Online Cloud V8A (SLAVE)" will remain invisible (100% transparent). - One still can see it on infra red mode (CONTROL+ALT+T)
6- Why all these boxes with the scripts, sounds, textures? Do I need them?
- It just in case one deletes something by accident so one can always recover it. Also, I do it for preventing assets lost -specially if one is from other grid!
7- I rezzed my controller, set all sculpts and sound box. I select city but nothing work. What could it be?
- Make sure city is well written in English. Also, it happens that on 1st time one rezzes the controller, it can act like this. so just reset script!
May 5 is the National Day of Awareness for Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women, Girls, and 2SLGBTQI+ People. Wear something red for solidarity, hang a red dress or shirt in your window or on a tree. This can also be done virtually. Feel free to come get a dress on a hanger from Birch Grove Spring to hang somewhere on your own region.
I NEED YOUR HELP! I have created a Hypergrid Passport that collects Stamps from Stamping Stations on a Region or Grid. They collect in a Passport Book which is ressed on the ground before you touch there Stamping Station. All Stamps are perm incase the book gets reset.
I need 30 region owners or grid owners to place a Stamping Station Down at your landing and watch your traffic grow as people try and gather all 30 stamps!
How it works
Grid Owner: Drops a texture and the Station Script into any object.
Station Script: Automatically finds the UUID of the texture they dropped.
Book Script: Listens on a secret channel. When the traveler touches a station, the book receives the UUID and applies it to the next empty cube (1-30).
Please drop Your grid Stamp into a Object Along with the script and make sure the ( running )is checked. It is set to not run right now as is.
Once we Get 30 grid or regions to participate I will Release The Hypergrid Passport For All To Come to your region and explore and collect a stamp. You can pick up the Stamping Station Kit NOW on Who Knows. How Cool Is This Going To Be? Come Grab Your Kit Now! Make Your grid or Region Stamp and place it in a Object with the script, and make sure the script is running it is unchecked as it is now. Thanks Mari, that was a BRILLIANT idea~
Liebe Freunde der Kunst und Kultur, liebe OpenSim-Freunde,
in diesem Jahr feiern wir das Pangea Kunst- und Kulturfestival bereits zum fünften Mal – und eröffnen es in Köln. Das hat einen ganz besonderen Grund: 20 Jahre virtuelles Köln. Aus diesem Anlass wird Köln in diesem Jahr zur lebendigen Bühne der Kunst. Das Opening startet am 24.04.2026 um 11 AM SLT / 20 Uhr – mit unserem DJ Marlon Wayne, der den Auftakt musikalisch begleitet. Auf der Kölner Domplatte präsentieren sich nicht nur Künstlerinnen und Künstler mit ihren aktuellen Projekten. Anders als in den vergangenen Jahren geben in diesem Jahr auch die kreativen Köpfe des Pangea Grids sowie aus anderen OpenSim-Grids Einblicke in ihre Projekte, Sims und Ideenwelten – denn dieses Festival lebt von Vielfalt und dem gemeinsamen Gestalten. Die Pavillons und Ausstellungen sind dabei nicht nur Momentaufnahmen, sondern Ausgangspunkte für weiterführende Projekte, neue Sims und künstlerische Entwicklungen. Dafür danken wir von Herzen für so viel Kreativität. Zu den diesjährigen Künstlerinnen und Künstlern zählen unter anderem Cherry Manga, Tutz Zabelin, Tina Bey, Terra Merhyem und Nyx Breen, die ihre Arbeiten im Laufe des Jahres in entstehenden oder sich weiterentwickelnden Sims präsentieren. Ebenso freuen wir uns auf Künstlerinnen und Künstler sowie Kunstschaffende wie ArtBlue, Tryad Destiny, Loru Destiny, Juliette SurrealDreaming, Rage Darkstone, Kimm Starr, Ansjela Amat, Serafina Bollettie, Lampithaler Artist und Reyno Parx sowie viele weitere, die eindrucksvolle Einblicke in ihr künstlerisches Schaffen geben. Einige von ihnen entwickeln ihre Arbeiten weiter und sind bereits Teil der Perspektive für das Pangea Festival 2027. Besonders ehren wir Cleopata Rayal, die mit 88 Jahren mit ihren selbstgemalten Bildern und ihrer Lyrik einen besonderen Platz in einer der Art-Galerien in Köln einnimmt und dort ihre Werke präsentiert. Ein besonderer Moment des Innehaltens ist unserem Gedenkpavillon gewidmet. Dort erinnern wir an Künstler und Wegbegleiter, die nicht mehr unter uns sind: Torbens Asp, Veritas McMaster, Mal Burns, Luna Lunaria und Mimi Reich. Ihr Wirken bleibt Teil dieses Festivals. Zur kreativen Vielfalt zählen für uns auch die Erbauer der Karnevalswagen. Ihnen sowie allen beteiligten Grids und Buildern gilt unser besonderer Dank. So erwartet euch in diesem Jahr ein weiteres Highlight im November: Am 11.11., dem traditionellen Beginn der Karnevalssession, feiern wir eine besondere Karnevalseröffnung im Pangea Grid – ein Event, auf das wir uns schon jetzt freuen dürfen. Unser Dank gilt ebenso allen DJs und DJanes, Musikern sowie den vielen Menschen im Hintergrund, die mit ihrem technischen Support das Pangea Grid – und damit dieses Festival der Kunst und Kultur – überhaupt möglich machen. Ebenso bedanken wir uns herzlich bei der HG Safari und allen weiteren Unterstützern und Wegbegleitern. Im Laufe des Jahres erwarten euch nicht nur neue Eröffnungen beeindruckender Kreativsims sowie Kunst- und Informationsausstellungen in Köln, sondern auch zahlreiche Veranstaltungen, mit denen wir die teilnehmenden Künstlerinnen und Künstler ehren und ihre Werke lebendig werden lassen. Wir freuen uns auf ein Jahr voller Kunst, Begegnungen und gemeinsamer Momente – und auf euren Besuch.
Herzlichst euer Pangea Team
Dear friends of art and culture, dear OpenSim friends,
this year we celebrate the Pangea Art and Culture Festival for the fifth time – and we are opening it in Cologne. There is a very special reason for this: 20 years of virtual Cologne. For this occasion, Cologne becomes a vibrant stage for art throughout the year. The opening will take place on April 24, 2026 at 11 AM SLT / 8 PM CET, featuring our DJ Marlon Wayne, who will musically accompany the start of the festival. On Cologne’s Domplatte, not only artists present their current projects. Unlike previous years, the creative minds of the Pangea Grid as well as other OpenSim grids will also offer insights into their projects, sims, and creative worlds – because this festival thrives on diversity and collaborative creation. The pavilions and exhibitions are not just snapshots, but starting points for ongoing projects, new sims, and artistic developments. For this, we thank you from the bottom of our hearts for such incredible creativity. Among the artists presenting larger-scale projects this year are Cherry Manga, Tutz Zabelin, Tina Bey, Terra Merhyem, and Nyx Breen, who will showcase their work over the course of the year in evolving or newly created sims. We are also delighted to feature contributions from ArtBlue, Tryad Destiny, Loru Destiny, Juliette SurrealDreaming, Rage Darkstone, Kimm Starr, Ansjela Amat, Serafina Bollettie, Lampithaler Artist and Reyno Parx, as well as many others, who offer inspiring insights into their artistic work. Some of them continue to develop their work and are already part of the perspective for the Pangea Festival 2027. We especially honor Cleopata Rayal, who at the age of 88 presents her self-painted artworks and poetry in one of the art galleries in Cologne. A special moment of remembrance is dedicated to our memorial pavilion, where we honor artists and companions who are no longer with us: Torbens Asp, Veritas McMaster, Mal Burns, Luna Lunaria, and Mimi Reich. Their legacy remains an integral part of this festival. Creative diversity also includes the builders of the carnival floats, to whom we extend our special thanks, along with all participating grids and builders. Another highlight awaits us in November: on November 11th, the traditional start of the carnival season, we will celebrate a special carnival opening in the Pangea Grid – an event we are already looking forward to. Our sincere thanks also go to all DJs, DJanes, musicians, and the many people working behind the scenes whose technical support makes the Pangea Grid – and thus this festival of art and culture – possible. We also warmly thank the HG Safari and all other supporters and companions along the way. Throughout the year, you can look forward not only to the opening of impressive new creative sims and art and information exhibitions in Cologne, but also to numerous events honoring participating artists and bringing their work to life. We look forward to a year full of art, encounters, and shared moments – and to your visit. Warm regards, your Pangea Team
