We have yet again some news for the OSW HUD.

The HUD is now integrated with our website chat. This allows you to send and receive instant messages to your opensimworld.com friends and chat with your group friends from any region in the Hypergrid as well as from second life.

The new HUD is listening on channel 4 for your chat commands:

To message an OpenSimWorld Friend, enter '/4 @userName bla bla...' in local chat
To message an OpenSimWorld Group, enter '/4 #groupTag bla bla ...'

Use the FRIENDS button to see your friends' @userNames
Use the GROUPS button to see your groups' #groupTag

You can skip the @username or #groupTag after your first message.
For example '/4 bla bla' will send the message to the last used @userName or #groupTag.

For the purpose of enabling the HUD, each group in opensimworld.com now has a #Hashtag that the users can use. We have set default #hashtags for all existing groups, but you can also change them from the settings page of your group.

The chats are always available from the web. Click the "Chat" link at the top bar in opensimworld.com to access IMs and Group Chats from any browser.

Hi i am trying to solve a problem i have been wondering why my sim was not being visited for over a week now. I realised that when i try and teleport from my grid to others it keeps saying unable to verify identity. I'm not sure exactly what the problem seems to be but all ports are open that are meant to be i have been trying the obvious trying to change the MyWorld.ini and opensim.ini but nothing seems to be helping i can not hypergrid anywhere.

Upon looking at my console i am seeing things like this appear.

I don't know if it is something that needs to be concerned about or not. This keeps appearing when one avatar appears on my grid.

Be aware that making an OAR copy of your region that includes a live OSworld beacon can totally screw things up once you load and run it on your pc HD. The clone of mine knocked me offline for a day and even renamed the region on this website as maybe a few of you noticed. So do remember to switch it off before you make the OAR !

Hello friends! I'd like to write an open letter to malls in OpenSim, if I may. I love giving 5-star reviews to your places, I can't often do it because I keep seeing issues that make me twitch. So if you'll indulge me, there are one or two things that are easy to fix and may improve your region.

First, if you have built a wonderfully spacious mall for us to enjoy, please allow us to fly through it, or at least offer many teleports. But fly is such a nice thing. Having to duck-run through great expanses of space is not really how I want to spend my summer vacation.

But speaking of size, I'd personally be much happier to visit a boutique of unique items than a massive mall of the same thing. I don't have anything against big malls, but they take a good deal of time to meander through, and it'd be great if I came away with some neat new things or a lovely experience of an especially gorgeous and unique location.

Also, please make sure the neat new things you offer are actually available. I wander through a store for an hour, finally find something I like, and that one thing is not copyable or buyable. At that point, I mutter rude things (i.e. "Why??") and teleport someplace pretty where I can fly and find serenity again.

And, as a personal preference, if you can provide clothing that is modest. Just a couple pieces. I know, there is something wrong with me that I want to hide my pixelated persona, what a weirdo I am. I'm not looking for head-to-toe with veils. Just, you know, something professional, or something I can wear to Grandma's, or church. Normal jeans. Shirts that go all the way down. My butt covered. I have a wardrobe full of ubiquitous microdresses that I wear as shirts with leggings. Honestly, I bet we can do better.

That said, I love OpenSim and I love wandering through your regions and appreciate your creativity and generosity. I look forward to throwing all the stars at you!

Needful Things – News

1. Sim Renovation
Needful Things is now 8 years old—and it’s time to replace the old houses with updated versions. Unfortunately, this will take some time, as a few shops are also moving to different locations. At the landing point, there’s a notecard at the Region Guide Terminal showing the current locations of the respective shops.

As always, we recommend searching for the items you’re looking for on HyperCat first and then locating the objects on Needful Things itself using the area search.

Once the renovations are complete, we plan to implement our own search and teleport system—Sixtus Majus will take on this project later.

2. No Public Nudity

Unfortunately, it occasionally happens that visitors enter the region unclothed. It’s difficult to tell whether this is intentional or simply because their clothing hasn’t loaded. However, the following rule applies to all my public regions:

!! NO PUBLIC NUDITY !!

I want all visitors to have the freedom to shop at Needful Things without feeling disturbed by the sight of naked avatars. Adult content in the shops (e.g., the NPC Factory with its sex NPCs) is arranged in such a way that you have to deliberately seek out these rooms yourself or with the camera and won’t accidentally stumble upon unwanted content.

I expect the same respect from all visitors. I really hate to put up “No Entry” signs, but anyone who stands naked in the kids’ shop in the future (like the woman in the recent photo) will be removed without warning.
I deliberately offer a small selection of accessories for children’s avatars, so the sexualized depiction of a visitor—especially in this particular shop—is completely out of the question!!!

3. Dinkie Accessories

Until now, Needful Things was a Dinkie-free zone. That has changed since Sixtus and I fell head over heels for these cute avatars. There are already quite a few shops in HG that offer Dinkie stuff—we don’t want to compete with them. But you’ll now find a few little items at Needful Things as well.

Needful Things – Neuigkeiten

1. Sim Renovierung
Needful Things ist inzwischen 8 Jahre alt - und wird es Zeit, die alten Häuser durch überarbeitete Versionen zu ersetzen. Das nimmt leider etwas Zeit in Anspruch, da zusätzlich ein der paar Shops in andere Häuser umziehen. Am Landepunkt gibt es eine Notecard am Region-Guide-Terminal mit der aktuellen Lage der jeweiligen Shops.

Nach wie vor empfiehlt es sich vorab auf HyperCat nach den gesuchten Artikeln zu suchen und dann auf Needful Things selbst die Objekte mittels Umgebungssuche zu ermitteln.

Nach Abschluss der Umbaumaßnahmen ist ein eigenes Such- und Teleportsystem geplant - Sixtus Majus wird sich diesem Projekt später zuwenden.

2. Keine öffentliche Nacktheit

Leider kommt es hier und da mal vor, dass Besucher unbekleidet die Region betreten. Ob aus Absicht oder ob die Kleidung nur nicht geladen ist, lässt sich nur schwer unterscheiden. Grundsätzlich aber gilt auf allen meinen öffentlichen Regionen:

!! KEINE ÖFFENTLICHE NACKTHEIT !!

Ich möchte, dass alle Besucher die Freiheit haben, auf Needful Things shoppen zu gehen ohne sich am Anblick nackter Avatare gestört zu fühlen. Adult-Inhalte in den Shops (z.B. der NPC Factory mit ihren Sex-NPCs) befinden sich so angeordnet, dass man bewusst diese Räume selbst oder mit der Kamera aufsuchen muss und nicht versehentlich über unerwünschte Inhalte stößt.
Den gleichen Respekt wünsche ich mir von allen Besuchern. Ich stelle nur sehr ungern Verbotsschilder auf, aber wer in Zukunft nackt im Kindershop steht (so wie die Dame auf dem Bild vor kurzem), wird in Zukunft ohne Vorwarnung entfernt.
Ich biete bewusst ein wenig Zubehör für Kinder-Avatare an, darum geht die sexualisierte Darstellung eines Besuchers - besonders in diesem speziellen Shop - überhaupt nicht!!!

3. Dinkie Zubehör

Bisher war Needful Things Dinkie-Freie-Zone. Das hat sich geändert, seit Sixtus und ich einen Narren an den putzigen Avataren gefressen haben. Es gibt schon einige Shops im HG, die Dinkie Stuff anbieten- denen wollen wir auch keine Konkurrenz machen. Aber ein paar Kleinigkeiten findet ihr inzwischen auch auf Needful Things.
