According a business blog, the "National Play Monopoly Day" is a time for families to gather together to play the game that celebrates "Park Place, Boardwalk, and the jails located anywhere in the world". WTF? Celebrating jails?

This is a beautiful Heart Bezel solitaire in Ruby. It is bento rigged so it increased the LOD it is a bit heavy. The mesh was reduced 50% prior to rigging too. For those that demand bento, and to the ones who scream at me for being heavy, I have to say, sorry but had to do it!! You can find it in the Bento rings section in the Foyer.

Why there are people they give their avatars names like "Nazi German" and "Adolf Hitler"?
Why they visit a sim like Stark and say they hate gays and threaden people to find them in real and kill them?
Why are people so full of hate?
Why can't they stay away from Stark and let live people their (virtual) life in the way they want?
Lots of questions that I don't have an answer to!

But one thing is absolutely clear for me:

WE DON'T WANT GUYS LIKE YOU HERE AT STARK!

So please stay away and spread your hate somewhere else. Or better: Don't spread it anywhere!

And stop crying in the Stark OSW review section because we banned you several times. We would do it anytime again!

I gave it a good go but the rigging of the jewelry caused the avatar cost to go up too much. I have decided to pull some of the bento because of complaints about the avatar cost. Before rigging the jewelry is decimated until it loses it's detail, so I am decimating as much as possible. I will keep playing with it until I can get the cost down. Thank you Typhaine.Artez for taking the time to help me perfect the jewelry. It has been a battle because it is such fine details which cost huge on some pieces no matter how much I decimate, or clean up. The other issue is, when clients wear mesh shoes, hair, clothing their avatar cost is up there, then by wearing my jewelry it goes up let's say the same as a pair of shoes, but because the jewelry is usually added last, the jewelry is to blame!! It is all adding to the avatar cost. Back to the drawing board. Thank you for all the support!!

I went to the beach today… without ever leaving my computer.

I started with a simple sand castle, and of course one thing led to another. Before I knew it, there was a mermaid, an octopus, a sea turtle and finally a dolphin joining the party.

So now we have an entire little collection of sand sculptures!

I love how these turned out — especially all the tiny shells, starfish and carved details. They should be fun scattered along a beach or grouped together to make a little sand sculpture display.

Sometimes the best projects are the ones you didn't plan at all.

migration begins! after about a year of running we're making some changes to assetd server. originally it stored assets in ipfs and kept local zstd compressed files on each region server. this burned up alot of drive space and 10 years down the road just isn't sustainable. So I'm getting rid of ipfs and storing all assets in s3 bucket. assetd pulls the assets on request, fixes broken ones if needed. with squid cache between assetd and opensim things are much faster. squid keeps current assets in ram for fast loading and stores less active assets in an optimized file structure. we can adjust the levels to increase ram and drive cache. i'm currently moving 2,583,234 assets into s3 bucket. after that's complete we just need to restart the grid, shouldn't be any downtime during the transfer though. on dev server assets load super fast. so we hope to have a better experience on holoneon grid in the next few days.

Halloween with Fred: The Zombie That Just Won’t Stay Dead

Halloween is creeping closer, which means it is time to dig through the wonderfully strange corners of Outworldz and resurrect a few old friends.

And this one is very difficult to keep dead.

Meet Fred’s Animated Zombie.

This isn't the sort of zombie that stands in the corner of your Halloween build looking menacing while everyone ignores it.

Fred apparently looked at that idea and decided zombies needed a better job description.

This zombie walks.
It attacks.
It makes noise.
You can hit it.
It falls apart.
It puts itself back together.

And, naturally...

YOU CAN RIDE IT.

Because why run away from the zombie when you can climb aboard and drive the thing around?

A Zombie With a Few Tricks Left in Him

Fred designed the zombie as an animated wandering character using his Prim Animation Compiler system.

The animation sequence includes standing, attacking, walking with alternating left and right steps, reacting to hits, taking a particularly nasty hit, and finally falling completely to pieces.

But death is apparently only a temporary inconvenience.

After enough abuse, the zombie collapses into scattered pieces on the ground.

Wait a bit...

...and he puts himself back together.

Then off he goes again.

There is something wonderfully Fred about engineering an undead creature that even death can't persuade to stop working.

Go Ahead. Hit Him.

The zombie actually keeps score as people interact with him.

Clicking him causes a hit reaction and eventually does enough damage to trigger the full death animation.

Head, arms, body — down he goes.

Then the zombie reassembles himself and resumes wandering around.

It makes a great interactive Halloween prop because visitors aren't simply looking at something spooky. They're causing things to happen.

And probably clicking him repeatedly just to see him explode again.

We know how people are.

But Wait — There's a Ride Me Button

This may be my favorite part.

Right-click the zombie and choose RIDE ME.

Your avatar climbs aboard, and suddenly the shambling Halloween decoration has become transportation.

Fred's script turns the zombie into a controllable vehicle, allowing you to steer him with your arrow keys.

So while everyone else is arriving at the Halloween party on broomsticks, motorcycles and dragons, you can make your entrance...

piggybacking on a zombie.

I think that wins Halloween.

When You Get Off, It Gets Even Better

Getting off your undead transportation doesn't simply end the ride.

The zombie falls apart.

Then he reassembles himself.

Then he walks back home.

Because apparently Fred even taught the zombie to clean up after the party.

The Engineering Behind the Silly

That's what I particularly enjoy about discoveries like this in the Outworldz archives.

They're funny, but underneath the humor is some genuinely clever scripting.

The zombie combines prim animation, sounds, physics, vehicle controls, randomized movement, interaction, damage scoring, roaming boundaries and a home position into one wonderfully ridiculous project.

Fred didn't just explain how to use it, either. His original tutorial documents how the animations are recorded, how the physics base is constructed, how the sounds are added, how the riding position is created and how the scripts work together.

It's one of those projects where you can play with the finished creation — or dig into the code and learn something from the way it was made.

That has always been part of the fun of Outworldz.

Build something.

Take it apart.

Learn how it works.

Change it.

And occasionally ride it around while it makes monster noises.

Resurrect Something This Halloween

There are years and years of creations tucked away at Outworldz, and Halloween seems like an excellent excuse to start opening some of those old crypts.

Fred's zombie certainly deserves another walk among the living.

Just remember one important rule:

If you manage to kill him...

don't celebrate too quickly.

We have released WolfVoice to GitHub this morning - this is a complete WebRTC setup for OpenSim, so you can switch off Vivox or add voice to any grid. It includes the server software and full setup instructions.

Each round, every player takes a turn giving a ONE-WORD response related to the secret word.

The Impostor: Use the clue to figure out the secret word and give a response convincing enough to fool everyone.

Then comes the fun part…

Phaze was the Second Life region of Fred Beckhusen and Debbie Edwards, and the creations associated with Phaze represent their creativity, work, and history in Second Life. Full credit for these creations and their legacy belongs to Fred Beckhusen and Debbie Edwards.

Weathered Woods is honored to provide a new home where selected pieces from this remarkable archive can once again be made available to the Second Life community.

This will be a carefully curated collection. Fred will decide which creations from his archives he wishes to release, and those pieces will be added to Weathered Woods over time. Each Marketplace listing will preserve the appropriate creator attribution and acknowledge the history behind the work.

For me, having Fred’s work represented alongside my own creations at Weathered Woods is an extraordinary honor. I look forward to helping preserve this little piece of Second Life history and making Fred and Debbie’s creations available for others to discover and enjoy again.

A Note About the Phaze Archive

I would like to clarify the purpose of this project.

The Phaze Collection represents archived Second Life creations by Fred Beckhusen and Debbie Edwards. Our goal is preservation—to restore these precious assets, keep them from being lost to time, and allow selected creations to be enjoyed again in the environment for which they were originally created.

These are not simply files that can automatically be moved to OpenSim. Some contain Second Life-specific scripts and functionality that would need to be rewritten or adapted for OpenSim before they could work properly.

We are also not using Second Life Marketplace primarily as a money-making venture. It is the Second Life distribution portal available to us, making it a practical way to preserve and provide access to selected pieces from the archive.

OpenSim is separate. Fred has generously provided creations to the OpenSim community through Outworldz for well over a decade, and new resources continue to be added there. We do not distribute through Kitely Market. We distribute here:

Many of our OpenSim friends also maintain homes and avatars in Second Life. Those are the people this announcement was intended to reach. We are part of communities that overlap; enjoying one virtual world does not require us to stop enjoying another.
