Ok... just looked through some of the recent front page posts. I've been here in Open Sim for about nine months now.

I have accounts in OSgrid and Kitely.

I'll have to admit a good deal of my wardrobe is possibly copybotted. I'd like to know if anyone is willing to send me a list of LM's showing truly original, OS based stuff (aside from Lunaria), I'd appreciate it. Most of my wardrobe is rigged to the Athena body. I also have a small number of Ruth2 takes. For my male alts (yes, I have a few, using the same names that I established for them in SL), I use Adonis and Roth2.

There was a discussion recently that influenced me to write this post. It's located below the post from Luna Lunaria, #92052. I totally understand creators desiring to be compensated for their creations. I have spent a fair amount of L$ to gather some of my clothes in SL. I wouldn't mind paying a few K$ or O$ for some creations on this side of the metaverse, as I think that's quite fair.

Thansk to anyone that can help me out, I appreciate it. I'd prefer that the links be included publicly (instead of PMing me), so other users can find it easily.

But say he was losing with his troops, He would definitely use nukes. This is why Ukraine cannot win this war. So now what? Do you think we should keep pouring money into a bottomless pit or seek peace? If we do not seek peace, more and more of ukraine will fall until Russia has control of it anyway. (Like what is happening now.) I say give him the land he wants of ukraine so that he at least has a chance in minutes to knock down the ICBMS so he is no longer afraid. If you don't do this, He will kill everyone anyway. Do you see now?

We are in Opensim to step away from the real-life grid for a bit, not to have it tossed in our faces soon as we open OSW. Opensim is an escape, and while I am here, I could care two fucks who you voted for or where you live. We are from Opensim. Leave your RL hate in the RL world, where it belongs. 

I've created a new group to show solidarity with anti-fascism and opposition to other hate groups and individuals. No heavy deal, you don't have to do anything to show your solidarity other than joining the group, and maybe, if you feel you can, displaying the logo on your region or in your club to show that hate groups and anyone associated with them are not welcome.

Obviously those who want to get a little more involved are more than welcome to do so, such as arranging events with a prominent anti-fascist message, even if it's only displaying the logo on promotional materials, to much more ambitious things such as art displays that highlight the dangers of the extreme-right.

To remove all doubt, fascists and their fellow-travellers, (Trumpists, Faragists, Lepenists etc are not welcome! Prospective members are vetted and are subject to approval, which means it's a safe space for the wary.

This isn't a political group, so you won't be bombarded with ideology, it's simply a group for those of us who share a similar belief, that all humans are worthy. I'll even go so far as to say that members should leave both their politics and their religion at the door, whilst anti-fascism is a political stance, it is one that crosses political boundaries. We don't even have to like each other to show solidarity, a point worth remembering.

To me a rebel is ANYONE who takes a stand for freedom, without government, corporate, or any movements/associations/organizations controlling those freedoms of speech, livelyhood, happiness, or actions that do not harm, or endanger the freedoms, or life of others. The Amazing Device. Have you ever backed up oars for a long period of time, lost several of the original, but hey that's ok! You've got the more recent ones! But then you discover a horrible secret. When you move an item, the exact same item is still in the same spot, so you move that one, and Lo and behold, another one? I recently found that my hallmark sim known as DragonFyre had 3 copies of every object in the exact same spot. Like I had loaded an oar 3 times. Only the problem was, I hadn't done that. I had loaded one oar. The problem is that at some point long ago I must have loaded the oar on top of itself multiple times SOMEHOW....??? So now how to fix it? I've got 3 copies of every item on this sim in the exact same spot. And every oar I've saved for over 3 years has this exact same problem. So I created the amazing device. All you do is enable console commands in osslenable (for region god only). Then put this script in a box and let it run. Over time the box will move all around your sim finding those duplicated items and remove them leaving just 1 original in that exact spot. So your sim still looks the same but now there is only one copy of the item in that spot instead of 2 or more... Here's the script:

While SL embraces PBR in an attempt to embrace greater 'realism' using the increasingly creaky old technology we’re all familiar with there is a backlash among Generation Z and other younger demographics towards cutting edge gaming with hypereal graphics and an embracing of older, less graphically real aesthetics. Some of this may be down to the fashionable adoption of retro, as in the numbers buying things like typewriters and traditional film cameras, but is some of it also likely a backlash against the increasing trend for hyperrealism where it’s no longer really easy to spot something real from recorded game action.

I am not a gamer, hence there have been a few times when I’ve been watching videos purporting to be actions in the current Russo-Ukrainian war where the game graphics have been so good that they appear to be real, it’s only when one looks more intently that it becomes subtly obvious that it’s recorded game action and not footage of an actual battlfield encounter.

I’m aware of arguments that the graphics of SL/OS are ‘poor’ but I have never agreed as this is a very subjective area depending on so many different factors, such as the comparisons being made. Relative to Minecraft and Active Worlds the graphics of SL and Opensim are fantastic, but compared to a photograph or the hypereal renderings of high end computer graphics, very poor indeed. Personally I rather like the aesthetic of SL/Opensim and would argue that the aesthetics are neither good nor bad, but exactly what they are. I’m not arguing against hyperrealism for those who want it, but rather agruing that the current graphics are regarded as fine by the vast majority if those who use Opensim and SL.

This article in today’s Guardian prompted me to write the above after last week I read something about the implementation of PBR in Second Life. Sometimes maybe, less is more, and if the aesthetics of retro games are appealing to Generation Z and other demographics younger than the average found in Opensim, then maybe there is hope yet that our hobby will endure. After all, Active Worlds is now nearly in its 30th year, has a very faithful and dedicated community together with graphics that make Minecraft look good!

A curious message landed in my inbox today, bringing to light a common frustration within the virtual world: someone had picked up a Xara body on a specific grid and was stumped by its "Auto Alpha" feature. My immediate thought was, "Well, you should really go back to the grid where you acquired it and ask them for assistance." And if they can't provide the answers, it truly highlights a significant issue: why are entities distributing freebies of products they clearly don't understand or support themselves? This ongoing problem underscores precisely why, if you're genuinely seeking a LaraX or Xara body, it's always best to come directly to the source. Let's be clear: Vesti is the original creator of the Xara body, and any other versions or distributions you encounter are, frankly, the work of thieves. Ultimately, for genuine support, authentic products, and the true understanding of features like "Auto Alpha," trusting the original maker is paramount, as all other offerings are merely unauthorized imitations.

After a year or so of being in Open Sim... I'm beginning to work on a proper OS avatar without any of the pirated material. I know Dorena's World has some Ruth2 outfits. Are there other spots I can TP to for more Ruth2 goodness? This will take some time for me, and my RL week ahead looks quite busy so I may not have much time to work on this until the end of it.

I know some of the Athena clothes I have now can fit Ruth2 with some alphas... the shoes I have on here are for the Athena. Right then, I must snooze now so I'll have to check replies later. Thanks for looking + any advice.

For a rare time, I went out on the HG to get some updated clothing. I know a shock. However, nice place and don't want to say the location is bad or allowing this. But, while shopping, an avatar landed in the region and immediately ran to intercept my walking path. I was approached by this child avatar that looked like (the Little Dutch Boy Paint /Angela Merkel / Hillary Clinton) who thought it was just fine to try to pull off my bathing suit. I asked it's age, "holds up 10 fingers". I said, there's things called laws and second, you are wearing 2 bodies (Proving it's a dude) and you do NOTHING for me. Replied "You Scared?".

This idiot who is 90% chance a 75 year old, Dirty Old Man living in Alberta Canada playing as a little kid (Like the one I knew about in other grids.)

Lost Castles... There are many "popular" castles being circulated in world. But years ago I saw several gigantic castles that were incredibly well done and beautiful that appear to be lost to time. They were not seen anywhere else. One was a white elven castle that was super huge and extremely beautiful. Another was a grey stone castle with exquisite interior and very well designed rooms. The third lost castle was a dark castle with many rooms. It's sad these castles were lost to time as the creators eventually logged off taking their beautiful creations with them where they are no longer seen in todays entirety in-world. Very very sad. The creators were expert builders and their designs were the stuff of legend. Now they may sit on an old hard drive in someones attic somewhere, or perhaps they deleted them in a michael-angelo type fit of rage. No one knows. If you know of any of these castles can you please post their location onto this post, and I will tell you if that is one of them or not.

I just caught up with the craziness about Lone stealing a floor from Marianna. Looks like she saw my post yesterday about our first monthly social with a picture of my Lotus Club on Luxor. it has a big circular dance floor with a blue arcane texture. I guess she assumed Lone stole that idea the day before yesterday's event and added to his Social region (which doesn't exist). That picture was from my Gala 6 months ago at the Lotus Club and which I built on Luxor a year ago. I have that same exact texture on one of my hypergates at Luxor. I have used that texture for years. I love arcane textures, especially on floors and ceilings - I have them on a floor in Castle Ceridwen and in my main store in the Magic and Mysteries room.

Enough of the conflict in Palestine. Let us pray for peaceful coexistence, where every nation can have its rights and territories recognized without occupation, in accordance with the rules, and with an end to mass killings.

Where Is The Damned Taxi?
I often get an event notice from a group I'm a member of, and it inevitably gives the event link, with the comment "Here's your taxi." First of all, I never get a taxi. A link is not a taxi. Where is the damned taxi? At the very least they can put a taxi at the landing zone to make it look like I got there by taxi.

And don't get me started about VIP group tags. All I'll say is that if everyone is a VIP, no one is a VIP. If I really was a VIP, they would actually send me the taxi!

Betelgeuse is a red giant star (sometimes called a red supergiant) in the constellation of Orion, you can see it with the naked eye on a clear night. It's the red dot on the left shoulder of Orion.

Easy to spot, easier still if you have the excellent Stellarium app which is free to use but has optional paid upgrades.

Stellarium will NOT recommend a cinema where you can go and watch the Beetlejuice movies, that's a totally different universe!

We're likely to see Betelgeuse change quite drastically in the near future, you see it exploded, quite some time ago.

Here's where my name starts to sneak into the story.

Betelgeuse is big, really big, really exceptionally big.

If you swapped it for our sun we'd be dead, in fact we'd be deep inside it.

Even Jupiter, so very far away from our sun might well be swallowed up.

* Sometimes the size of things is hard to comprehend even when they are relatively close by.

Betelgeuse actually exploded a while back, quite a while back, quite a hell of a while back.

It exploded around 650 million years ago, the Earth was likely in the middle of an ice age at the time.

* Sometimes things are so distant in time, we can't quite even get a feel for how long ago something happened.

Betelgeuse is around 650 million miles away.
Fortunately for planet Earth that distance from Betelgeuse means we exist.

* Sometimes the impact of an event such as an explosion is hard to wrap your head around without some point of reference.

At this time I'm compelled to slide in a quote from one of my favourite authors:

By the time we see this explosion around 650 million years will have passed.

Because we see light, and light only goes so fast - a mere 3 million meters a second or 186 miles a second or 671 million miles an hour, we can almost get a grip on those numbers, almost.

When we do see it, it will be spectacular and for a long time.
It will probably be as bright as the moon, even likely to be visible in daytime.

So dear reader, if you read this far - well done, I've droned on a lot.
More importantly at least to me is to know what I am in all this majesty of physics, of time and of space.

What else could I be but "speck" :)

BE AWARE IF YOU USE SSD'S. An SSD can randomly go into a complete shut down and lock ALL DATA on the drive out. You won't be able to access that ssd ever again. In my case it was a SAMSUNG 870. Well, I had made several beautiful oars... but I had a drive crash... well actually, an ssd crash. very unexpected as it was a samsung 870. but when i say crash what happened was it totally locked up the ssd. I mean totally. Everything is completely not accessible. At least with a hard drive if you have a crash you can recover most of your files. But apparently not with this ssd. It's beyond crazy they don't make people aware that an ssd can lock up like this for no apparent reason. I'm afraid to say I've lost all my work. Not surprising I suppose. I really don't know what happened, everything was fine when I went to bed, and I woke up the next day and the ssd is electronically locked and cannot be accessed by any computer. I even tried a special device I ordered from amazon. Nope. I never knew this could happen. It's very disheartening to have technical troubles of this magnitude coupled with the negativity from the trolls... so... I just left the grids for months. I may come back one day and try to rebuild everything. But it's a monumental task. I spent so long creating all those beautiful places... Only to have them completely destroyed by a complete ssd lock. I should point out I was running samsung magician and there was NOTHING wrong with the ssd at all... Nothing was reported by magician except that the ssd was in GREAT SHAPE.

What Are You Looking For?
After the closing of the much-beloved (and, at times, the much-reviled) Adachi, I thought about opening a place called Not-Adachi. Starting the "What Are You Looking For" group was easier. Now, after just 4 months, we have 78 members. We are the largest and most active group on OWS.

I appreciate the thanks directed my way for starting the group. But the thanks should go to our many helpers. They are the reason What Are You Looking For is such a success. Here are just some of them.

Ukraine? Well regardless of how you feel about whether or not russia or ukraine is in the right, here is why it is wrong for America.
1.) Making russia mad at the usa, ends oil trade, oil goes up, everything going to any store also goes up in price, as the cost of gas to get it their has gone up. Example: gas, groceries going through the roof, restaurant costs (big mac meal for $17.00 now)
2.) Biden and his cabinet are VERY short sighted with what is best for america AND the ukraine. By the usa sending taxpayer (poor people) money to the ukraine, it means everyones income tax refund is going to be $300 less this year, thus affeccting mostly the poor people of the USA. Also, if the usa had not got into this ukraine/russia war, then it would have already been over, with far less deaths of ukraine soldiers and russian soldiers. Thanks to the usa for dragging out the war forever - now there will be many many more times dead on each side.
3.) Russia was a super power and they have left over super power weapons. So whether or not the usa got involved in this money pit, the outcome is always going to be the same. Russia will win. It was a stupid investment of american money b/c the end result is always the same. Ukraine loses.
**** With that said, I feel bad that ukraine was attacked by communists, but it's not my fault, none of my business, and none of my money should go to pay for it. It is a very bad investment of the american peoples hard earned money. We have people in the usa, who spend 7 days a week, 12 hours a day standing on hard concrete floors running a machine doing production work, who are so tired they can barely stand up, but they keep going back doing the same thing every day for THEIR kids. They work so hard to take care of their families, not see our government give our tax refunds away to a useless money pit we can't win anyway.
